AIR MAIL
October 25, 1954
Mr. D. W. Kempner
c/o St. Regis Hotel
Fifth Avenue & 55th Street
New York, N. Y.
Dear Mr. Dan:
In your letter to me of September 20th evidently you got
mixed up on the date, as you stated you would remain in Paris until
October 26th, which was your sailing date on the steamer LIBERTE.
I checked with Fowler & McVitie and they stated that the steamer left
on the 22nd and would arrive in New York on the 28th.
Mackey was in the office Saturday and I told him that you
were not sailing until the 26th and he was going to leave yesterday
and I suggested that he leave today, which he stated he would do.
I am enclosing herewith pullman ticket from New York to
Houston on November 3rd.
Our total bought not paid for at October 23rd amounted to
52,177 bales. Our stock was 34,180 bales. We were long the basis
23,000 bales. Our net long hedge was 8,078 bales. Our total borrowings
have not increased since zy last letter to you, which was $5,300,000.00.
Practically all of the Government Loan cotton has been received, however,
we are now receiving shipping orders covering cotton located at the
Liberty Press as well as the M & P Press, however, not of any sufficient
importance.
No doubt our compress is going to get very tight within the
next 30 days as the cotton has begun to arrive and very little cotton
being shipped out. I was out at the compress a day or two ago with Mr.
Biron and it looks as though we have storage for about another 10,000
bales at the present writing.
I talked to Mr. Gatz and he stated that he had called a
meeting at 10 o'clock on November 15th.
I sincerely hope that your trip over was very pleasant and
looking forward to seeing you on November 5th and with every good wish,
I am
Yours sincerely,
