Organization Plans to Take Hand
in National Politics This
Summer.
Liberty League to Eight
Prohibition.
By 3.-*ajCiated Press.
Chicago, March 13.—The Liberty league,
organized and backed by the liquor inter-
ests, is in readiness to make a desperate
effort to annihilate the Anti-Saloon league
and turn back the prohibition wave sweep-
ing over the south. Announcement was
made today of the completion of the or-
ganization of the league, and claim is
made for it that since October a general
body*,has beer, organized in every state
in the union.
Its membership in Illinois is said to
include 200,000 men. The headquarters of
the organization are in Cliicago and sub-
headquarters are maintained in New York,
Atlanta. Georgia, Louisville, Ky.; St.
Louis, Denver, Seattle and San Francisco.
The body ils secret and the names of its
officers are guarded with care. The states
are organized by local lodges or chapters
in which the membership oath is binding
as to policies and methods of proced-
ure.
It is the purpose of the Illinois league
to hold a state convention in June or
July to pass upon candidates for state
officers and for the legislature prior to
the district primarj- on Aug. S. Candi-
dates will meet with favor in direct, pro.
portion as they favor the platform.. The
league’s platform, it is declared, will re-
sort to no subterfuge, stating its policies.

BONUS MEETING.
------- . ■ f
Subscribers to Brownsville Road Bonus
Are in Session Today'.
At' the cotton exchajsge this after-
noon is being held a meeting of the
subscribers to the bonus for the St.
Louis, Brownsville & Mexico road. The
object of the meeting is to decide
whether this bonus shall be turned
over to the Rock Island-Frisco-Yoa-
kum interests, as the Brownsville road
is not coming to Galveston. The bonus
in land and cash amounted to some-
thing over ?80,000 and when it was
found some .time ago that the Browns-
ville was not going to build into Gal-
veston a proposition was made to turn
over the bonus to the Rock Island-
Frisco interests.
The subscribers to the bonus ap-
pointed a committee to take up the
matter and this committee decided that
if the Fri.sco interests were entitled to
the bonus they must guarantee an
equal rate basis for Galveston With all
points on the Brownsville road as en-
joyed by Houston from Brownsville
territory.
Pliiladeli»hia Mint Resumes With Full
Force of Men.
3y Associated Press.
Philadelphia Pa., March 13.—With
the return of the wave of prosperity
the United States mint in this city has
again become a golden bee hive of in-
dustry. Throughout the week em-
ployes who had been laid off have been
receiving notifications to resume their
posts and yesterday the full force was
at work, aggregating about 550 per-
sons. It is stated at the mint that this
renewal of activity is due to fresh
orders from Washington for immediate
coinage. Leading these orders is one
for $10,000,000 more in $20 gold coins.
