BIDS WANTED!
Richard A. Palmer, who received a
life sentence when tried on a charge
of murder in La Grange last Spring,
his victim alleged to have been Percy
A. Calkins, traveling salesman from
Houston, was convicted at Liberty
last week, and received another life
sentence; the jury verdict being thus
read in the open court.
At the time of the trial in La
Grange, the murder case, brought to
Fayette county on a change of venue
from Edinburg, in the Rio Grande
valley, attracted many to the court-
house. Palmer received the verdict in
a calm manner. The murder trial at
Liberty last week was the result of
a confession said to have been made
by Palmer. The crime was commit-
ted several years ago.
Deputy T. J. Flournoy and District
Clerk Roy H. Giese, in attendance
upon the court as witnesses to local
court procedure and trial, returned
to La Grange, Wednesday. Their tes-
timony was not introduced as wit-
nesses, as Palmer had repudiated his
confession, and put up an entireb’
different defense. "
The grand jury of Liberty county,
in offering their indictment, referred
to the man who had been murdered,
as “unknown” as the identity of the
murder victim had not been estab-
lished, although libertl effort had been
made to identify him. He is said to
have been murdered in 1935 and two
years later, his body was found.
Palmer, it is said, admitted the
crime last year, and also made a con-
fession. It was upon agreement with
the prosecuting attorney that he was
to escape the death penalty. Later,
as stated, when the case came on for
trial, Palmer, repudiated his confes-
sion.
With Palmer, at the time that Per-
cy A. Calkins was murdered near
Edinburg, was Ray McAllister who,
sition, and to discuss with them their
possibility of serving as a board
Crush 3 Bayer

twice every few
hours.
The speed with which Bayer
tablets act in relieving lhe uis-
, tressing symptoms of colds and
‘ accompanying sore throat is utter-
ly amazing , ,. and the treatment
is simple and pleasant. This is all
you do. Crush and dissolve three
genuine Bayer Aspirin tablets in
one-third glass or water. Then
gargle with this mixture twice,
holding your head well back.
This medicinal gargle will act
almost like a local anesthetic on
the sore, irritated membrane of
your throat. Pain eases promptly;
rawness is relieved.
You will say it is remarkable.
And the few cents it costs effects
a big saving over expensive “throat
gargles” and strong medicines.
And when you buy, see that you
get genuine BAYER ASPIRIN.
