was leaving early because tropical storm Faye’s heavy rains closed all Alamo Community College District campuses at noon.

Bizzell also reported she did not see
anyone directing traffic in the parking
lots at the time.
Zeigler said he was aware the lack
of direction in the parking lots and will
organize an evacuation plan with police
Chief Terrie Hoffmann.
In other parking news, students who
spend $10 to register their vehicles for
parking on campus are not guaranteed
a parking space.
Any drivers arriving after 8 o'clock or
so in the morning will find themselves
parking blocks away from their class-
rooms, forced to walk up to a half mile
in the elements with books and packs.
Or students can take advantage of a
free shuttle bus service between 8 a.m.
and 3 p.m linking off-campus lots and
the main campus.
The college does not have enough
parking to accommodate its enrollment
so extra lots are leased from neighboring
property owners on a monthly basis.
These lots, though temporary and
subject to change during the semester,
are subject to all parking rules and regu-
lations.
The shuttle service runs two buses
continuously between the outlying
lots and the south entrance of Chance
.. "'ll
Academic Center, except between 11
a.m. and 1 p.m. when one is in opera-
tion.
Students can catch the shuttle on
Howard Street between Poplar and
Maple streets, at the comer of Main
Avenue and Maple street, and Ogden
and Evergreen streets.
In campus and off-campus lots, tick-
ets for parking violations are $4. After 10
days, the fee rises to $10.
Vehicles parked illegally in a handi-
capped zone, blocking another car in or
blocking a driveway, will be towed by
Bill's Wrecker Service, 6550 Old Highway
90 W., with rates starting at $45.
Officers attempt to notify students
in classes if a car is legally registered to
give them a chance to move the vehicle
before it is towed.
ACCD Public Safety Officers are
peace officers, with all the powers, privi-
leges and immunities of officers of the
San Antonio Police Department, and
they have the ability to issue college dis-
trict citations as well as write tickets.
Officers also may make arrests for
violations of Texas Motor Vehicle Code
and criminal laws.
The Department of Public Safety will
assist students, faculty and staff with
vehicle problems, such as lockouts and
jump starts, or provide an escort.
