Mr.
Building Committee: Mr. Samuel Shainock, Chairman, reported
that screens in the Hebrew Institute Building had been
repaired and are now beiag installed. Estimate for repairs
to fire escape was submitted in the amount of $75.00, being
materials $40.00 and labor $35.00. Other minor repairs
were found necessary and Mr. Susholtz informed the Chair
that he would assist Mr. Shainock in handling the fire
escape and other matters.
Cemetery Committee: Mr. Ben Susholtz, Chairman, stated
that he had nothing to r eport other than a few minor
grievances that would be taken care of in the usual manner.
Finance Committee: Mr. J.L. Zuber being absent from the
meeting, there was no report to submit. Mr. Goldapper
reported that the note covering principal and interest
due in June on the mortgage, had been paid. Mr. Max Lewis
pointed out that the finances of the Congregation were at
a low state with the result that several checks already
issued had to be withheld pending an increase in funds.
He stated that this matter would be gone into thoroughly
at the next meeting.
Under New Business, Mr. Goldapper raised the question
of preparations for the forthcoming High Holydays,
cularly as to seating accommodation and prices of seats.
Mr. Kaplan offered a motion that prices of seats for this
year’s High Holyday season be set the same as prevailed
last year, and that Mr. Goldapper be instructed to have
tickets printed immediately and assignments made due to
the early date of the Holydays; that the Chair appoint a
committee to approach the City Council relative to borrow-
ing auditorium chairs for use in the balcony, as was done
last year, and that such seats be assigned free to members
of the Sunday School Faculty and of the A.Y.A. groups.
The Motion was seconded by Mr. D. M. Gordon and passed
with no further discussion. In further discussing
preparations for the High Holydays, Mr. Goldapper requested
that a committee be appointed to superintend the handling
of tickets at the doors. Mr. Lewis agreed to this proposal
stating he would try and arrange this phase of activity.
Mr. Catchman asked whether it would not be possible to
assign better located seats to members rather than sell
such seats to non-members. In the discussion which
followed, Mr. Kaplan explained the situation that had
existed, while Mr. Goldapper went into detail on the
method used to assign s eats to pledged members and fixing
of prices. Mr. Kaplan recommended that in giving consider-
ation to such assignments, certain old-time members at
present unable to pay, be assigned their regular seats
complimentary. This recommendation was adopted.
