The Chair referred to the new by-laws adopted at
the special membership meeting held earlier in the evening,
and particularly to that part relating to the Advisory Committee.
Mr. Max Lewis recommended that the Chair make an
early appointment of Committees in view of a number of pending
matters and plans to be carried^ouj;, the Chair giving his
assurance that this should be s© eGKlalthottgh it was his desire
to counsel with his vice-presidents first.
The Chair also called upon Mr. Morris Catchman, the
newly elected Treasurer. Mr. Catchman expressed his thanks
for the Board’s confidence in his ability to handle this
position, which he considered to be an important.one at this
time in view of the many activities planned.
He expressed his appreciation for the confidence displayed
in re-electing him to again lead the Congregation and assured
the members he would do all in his power to further the
interests of the Congregation. He regretted the absence from
this meeting of Sam Rosenberg and Harry Paine, two of the
newly elected V-Presidents, but called on the other elected
V-President, Mr. A. B. Greenberg, for some remarks.
Mr. Greenberga felt.that everything he wished to say had
been adequately stated by the Chair, and that although the
work was somewhat new to him, he would do all possible to
help in the good work, bearing in mind, however, that he had
not a great deal of time to devote to such activities.
The Chair referred to the new set-up in the office of
Secretary, pointing out that practically all of the work
formerly handled by this position would now be handled, by
the Executive Director and his office personnel. He was
glad to see the re-election of Harry Kaplan to again serve
in this capacity, and commented on the work ably carried out
by him in the past, and in this connection felt that the
Board tender him a vote of thanks and appreciation, which was
so done. Mr. Kaplan expressed his appreciation for the
confidence displayed, and assured the Boatd of his continuing
interest in Congregational matters.
Mr. Ben Streusand was of the opinion that the
Sisterhood would like to have some representation on our
Board of Trustees, to consist of possibly two of their members.
He recommended that an invitation be extended to that Body
to appoint representatives in the number they saw fit. He
felt also, that some representation on the Board be extended
to other organizations of the Congregation.
Minutes read ofithe Regular Board Meeting held
February 20, 1945, and of the two special meetings of the
Board held on February 27, and April 2, 1945. These were all
approved as read, and so ordered adopted.
