Mrs. Irene Slimaon Cox of Sail Antonio
Mrs. Cox Speaker At
Desk, Derrick Dinner
The Desk and Derrick members
of Breckenridge and Cisco enter-
tained their bosses with a dinner
held at the Woman's Forum on
Mondiy eveninc, November 12.
Guest speaker for the occasion was
M.s. Irene Stimson Cox, of San
Antonio, who conducted an inform-
ative talk entitled "Service Is no
Heritage." Mrs. Cox emphasized
that at the present time the oil
industry requires more competent
conscientious, and devoted employ-
ens. than in the past, since the in-
dustry must now cope with more
complex problems and detailedpro-
cedure, such as the Railroad Com-
iii! sion. Federal Tower Commis-
sion, etc. It was further noted by
Mrs. Cox that in the past five
years there has been a 50 per.cent
increase in women employees
throughout the oil industry. Itr
conclusion she urged the local
members tocontinue increasing
their knowledge so that they
might be of greater srevice, which
is the aim of the organization
Mrs. Cox is past president of the
Association of Desk and Derrick
Clubs of North America, an or
ganization with 115 clubs through
out the United States and Canada
and with a membership of over
9,000 women.
Celia Weatherford was narrator
for a skit "Fashions for the Busy
Executive" with clothing provid-
ed by The Hub Clothiers. The mo-
dels were Desk and Derrick mem-
hep, I'at Jackson, who modeled
clothes with the "Ivy League" look;
Merlene Mills, dressed as a typi-
cal "Buck Backer;" Estrella Uae
wearing the "golf ensemble;" Ruth
Braziel, decked out in a hunting
costume; Evelyn Frazier modeling
clothes for typical office wear; Bill-
ie Holmes nattily attired in the ap-
jvircl of the driller; and Eva Lula
Rogers wearing an inconspicious
costume (a tuxedo, ten-gallon hat,
cowboy boots and diamond rings)
for the rich oil man's trip to New
York City.
The focal point of interest was
an , individual table graced with a
gold derrick cont,-lining bronze pom-
pom mums interspersed with em-
erald foliage and topped with "Wel-
come Bosses" in black and gold
lettering. Placed at intervals on the
long dinner tables were minature
gold desks, bearing red roses, and
derricks flanked with flowers of
autumn hues. Approximately sev-
ently members and guests attended
the dinner.
