Another Force
Into Atlantic
WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (U.E>—
The Navy disclosed Friday it will
send another powerful task force
into the Atlantic Monday headed
by the aircraft carrier Saratoga.
The force also will include the
attack carrier Lake Champlain
and a number of destroyers. It
will engage in a "training opera-
tion,, between Norfolk, V,a., and
Mayport, Fla.
The nation's long- range sfcrate
gic bombing force apparently is
engaged in stepped-up exercises
within the continental United
States.
There also was speculation an-
other naval task force, probably
built around two aircraft carriers,
may be dispatched to the Indian
Ocean area on the other side of
the Suez Canal.
Defense officials have declared
the stepped-up U. S. military ac-
tions are not intended to be "pro-
vocative" but are "prudent" in
view of the war activity and
threats in the Middle East.
The Air Force said its strategic
bomber activity was "routine
training" which was not linked
necessarily with the Middle East
crisis but was not divorced from
it entirely either.
While the naval movements
were described merely as 'train-
ing' the show of force even
across the Atlai.„.c could not help
