The willingness and ability
overcome evil belongs to everyone
who realizes his spiritual relation-
ship to God. This is the theme
of the Lesson-Sermon on the sub-
ject “God” to be read in Chris-
tian Science churches this Sunday.
The Golden Text reads, “Behold,
the tabernacle of God is with men,
and he will dwell with them, and
they shall be his people, and God
himself shall be with them, and, be
their God” (Revelation 21:3).
The protection assured by an un-
derstanding of the following state-
ments from Psalms may be dem-
onstrated by all: “The Lord is on
my side; I will not fear: what
can mart do unto me? The Lord
is my strength and song, and is
become my salvation” (118:6, 14).
The Discoverer of Christian Sci-
ence, Mary Baker Eddy, in these
words challenges the acceptance
of evil as power: “If thought is
startled at the strong claim of
Science for the supremacy of God,
or Truth, and doubts the suprema-
cy of good, ought we not, con-
trariwise, to be astounded at the
vigouous claims of evil and doubt
them, and no longer think it nat-
ural to love sin and unnatural
to forsake it,—no longer imagine
evil to be ever-present and good
absent ? . . . There is divine au-
thority for believing in the super-
iority of spiritual power over ma-
terial resistance” (pp. 130, 134).
