pounds into a drive that took him
to the one despite the valiant ef-
forts of Jimmy Baugh, Jasper Gon-
zales, and Jimmy Fagan to stop
him. He crashed over from that
; point for the final Yoakum score
two plays deep in the fourth per-
iod. The conversion made it 28-7.
The Bobcats never-say-die spirit
asserted itself again in the fourth
quarter with bare minutes left to
play. Passes from McBride to ends
Freeman and Ken Kendall, and a
brilliant twenty yard run by Jaso
from the Yoakum 35 to the 15 put
the ball in the Bulldog danger zone.
McBride chucked another pass
into Freeman’s arms on the six
and Jaso went over on the next
play standing up. Young again
converted for the extra point and
the score stood 28-14.
The Bulldogs couldn’t seem to
move after they took the kickoff.

Refugio.—The October 23 issue
of The Remarks which carried the
winners of the Refugio County
Fair parade stated that the second
place in the float division went
to the VFW. We have since been
informed by Bob Klare, chairman
of the parade, that the VFW Auxil-
iary and not the VFW won second
place in the float division.

might have been altogether differ-
ent.
The Bulldogs, who did little pass-
ing and concentrated largely on
their ground game fared better.
The weight advantage was heavily
in their favor.
At any rate the score is in the
record books in Yoakum’s favor and
that is where it counts.
Those who saw action in the Bob-
cat lineup were Ernest Guerrero,
halfback; Don Davis, guard; Billy
Joe Williams, halfback; Wayne
Boone, tackle; Serafin Vela, half-
back; Jimmy Fagan, quarterback;
Renaldo Rivas, end; Oscar Guer-
rero, back; Bill Wright, end; Jim-
my Baugh, back; Emil Jaso, full-
back; Jasper Gonzales, center; Bob-
bie McBride, quarterback; Pat
Freeman, end; Kenneth Kendall,
end; Ira Hulse, guard; Louis
Young, tackle; Wayne Atkinson,
tackle; Bill Anderson, end; Ray
until, he crossed the double stripe.
The extra point try was good and
the final score stood 14-6.
The Kittens, who have won all
their games except a tie tilt with
Victoria at the first of the sea-
son, have never ceased to look like
a Champion club of their class
and weight. They play hard, clean
ball, and keep cool under fire. Our
hats are off to them.
Kitten Bobby Walker suffered
a chipped bone in his leg in the
fourth period.
The Kitten lineup included Ben-
ny Hoblit, halfback; Eugene Lin-
ney, tackle; Oscar Capistran, full-
back; Buster Wallace, guard; Ver-
non Barber, tackle; Alvin Allbright,
end; James Page, guard; Jimmy
Haley, tackle; Buddy McCown, half-
back; George Rhoads, quarterback;
Alvin Roberts, end; Lupe Rivas,
halfback; and Jimmy Sheives, end.

Scotch Foursome Scheduled
Refugio.—A Scotch Fhursome
will be played Sunday afternoon
Don Davis, who had played a hard Anderson, tackle; and Oscar Jaso,
rushing, heads up game all eve-
ning. The 136 pounder knifed
through the Bulldog defense twice
in succession to dump the ball
carrier for losses of from two to
five yards. As a result the Bull-
dogs kicked out.
As the quarter drew to a close
Ernest Guerrero took a short pass
from McBride on his own 15 and
streaked thirty-eight yards to the
Yoakum 47 in a beautiful exhibi-
tion of broken field running. The
new drive was cut short, however,
when the Bulldogs intercepted a
Bobcat pass and the clock ran out.
The Bobcats relied heavily on a
passing attack which they could
never get to click consistantly. Had
they been able to do so the outcome

Refugio.—The Kittens, Refugio
Junior High’s grid team, clawed
their way to a 14-6 victory over
Beeville Junior High’s Demons
Monday night at Bobcat Stadium.
The versatile, hard driving Kit-
tens used a ground attack spotted
with a few well placed passes to
come out on top.
Highlight of the game was a
breathtaking eighty-five yard run
by lightening Alvin Allbright in
the first quarter for a Kitten TD.
Lupe Rivas ran the point over
for a 7-0 score.
Both teams went scoreless in
the second period despite outstand-
ing offensive work by Oscar Capis-
tran, Glen Duhon and others. But
a Kitten fumble on their own ten
in the third quarter cost them the
ball. Three plays later the Demons
rammed it over for a Beeville TD.
The try for extra point was no
good.
The Kittens led by a slim mar-
gin until the middle of the fourth
period when one of those well plac-
ed passes previously mentioned

Fighting Bobcat Squad Loses 28-14
To Hard Hitting Bulldog Eleven
Refugio.—The Refugio Bobcats
lost a heart-breaker to the Yoakum
Bulldogs Friday night in a four
quarter free-for-all of penalties
and injuries.
The loss, which will in all prob-
ability knock Refugio out of the
running for the District 30-AA
crown, was suffered in a game
that was a complete reverse of the
Beeville-Refugio contest. Yoakum
alone was penalized eighty-five
yards for infractions of the rules
ranging from offsides to clipping.
Bobcat halfback Serafin Vela
was injured early in the first quar-
ter and taken out of the game.
Two Bulldog players suffered
broken legs. A number of other
players on both teams were shaken
up. The 28-14 score did not indi-
cate the ferocity with which the
game was played.
The Bobcats, faced by a big,
hard hitting Bulldog squad, fought
hard to keep their opponents in
check, but two bad breaks early
in the first quarter worked against
them.
A fumble by the Bobcats on their
own 35, recovered by the Bulldogs,
was turned into a Yoakum TD five
downs later by John Hamman. The
score came after big Cleo Cooper
had shoved the ball to the 13. A
good extra point kick made the
score 7-0.
One play after the. kickoff the
Bobcats lost the ball on another
fumble—this time a completed pass
on their own 25. Cooper ran the
six points over two plays later.
The extra point made the score
14-0.
The Bobcats came alive on the
kickoff and began an offensive that
rolled to the Bulldog 18. The high-
light of the drive was a fifty
yard pass and run play from Bob
McBride to Emil Jaso to the Bull-
dog 25. Jaso and Ernest Guerrero
took the ball the rest of the way
to the 18, but could get it no fur-
ther and the Bulldogs took over
on downs.
Only two plays later as the sec-
ond quarter opened Yoakum’s fleet
footed John Hamman broke away
and ran seventy-six yards for an-
other Yoakum TD. The score, with
another extra point, stood 21-0.
Deep in the second period Bobcat
Bill Wright recovered a Bulldog
fumble on the Yoakum 15, but the
ball exchanged hands twice and was
pushed to mid-field before the Bob-
cats put it in scoring position.
The Bobcats, after moving to the
one, were penalized back to the
16 for clipping. Two plays later
McBride hit Pat Freeman with a
bullet pass back to the one and on
the next play the speedy Bobcat
quarterback slammed over into pay
dirt. Louis Young’s kick made the
score 21-7.
Highlights of the scoreless third
quarter were a Bobcat drive to the
Bulldog one, which failed to‘ ma-
terialize into a score and a sev-
enty-five yard run by Yoakum’s
Hamman from his own six to the proved the complete undoing of the
Bobcat 21. Cooper threw all his 193 Demons.

(Ed Note on Game
After seeing the Refugio-Yoakum
game I feel the people of Refugio
should be thankful that the Bob-
cat team and coaches are of such
high caliber that they do not feel
that every game must be won even
at the cost of their reputations
as honorable sportsmen.

Refugio.—The Barefield High
School Tigers journeyed to Cuero
on Saturday night to defeat the
Gobblers by a score of 13-0 to gain
undisputed possession of first
place in the district.
The Tigers are the only team in
District X-A with no defeats in
district and non-district competi-
tion. All other teams in the dis-
trict have lost two games with
the exception of Yoakum, which
has lost one. The Tigers can win |
one of the two remaining conferen-
ce games and emerge champions
because of the win over the Yoa-
kum Lions.
The Cuero Gobblers put up a
stubborn defense and the first
quarter ended in a scoreless tie, but
early in the second quarter a pass
from James Jones to James Wil-
liams was good for 45 yards and
a score. Lawrence Tyrone crash-
ed over left guard for the extra
point. The half ended with the
Tigers holding a 7-0 advantage.
Coach Gists’ charges came back
and scored early in the second quar-
ter, with a Bonner to J. Williams
pass, good for another score. The
extra point try failed. The running
of Taylor and Brown sparked the
Gobblers’ play along with out-
standing end play by Wimbush.
The Tigers held a line weight ad-
vantage of 173 pounds to 166, but
the Gobblers’ backfield outweigh-
ed the Tigers 173 to 151 pounds.
Homecoming will be November
15, against Seguin for the last
regular season appearance of the
Tigers.
