new method of- fighting forest
fires is in use in Rhode Island this
year.
Instead of the old-time method
of waiting for a-fire to start, then
rushing out with shovels, brooms
and water, the "state is using
weather bureau instruments to de-
termine where or when there is
any possibility of fire.
Anemometers, which . measu’re
wind velocity, and thin strips bf

amount of dampness in the forests,
are among the instruments used.
