Girls Not All
Oa The Stage
By GEORGE WHITE
Written for United Press
HOLLYWOOD <U.E>— The most
beautiful girls in the world are
not found behind the footlights—
they're still on farms, punch—
typewriters, running elevators and
selling men's furnishings in de-
partment stores.
I have just completed casting
for the "George White Scandals
of 1967." I will open the show to-
night at the' Rivitra hotel in Las
Vegas. This is the first "scan-
dals" show since 1942, and I have
gone about casting the showgirls
as I did in 1920.
I .advertised in the classified
sections of New York and Los
Angeles newspapers, under . the
column marked "Help' Wanted-
Female." More than 300 girls
showed up on the interview day,
each one virtually * be.-iuty. And,
I'll bet that ■ some 300 bosses, on
that day, were notified that their
beautiful girt employes had to at-
tend a grandmother's funeral.
Each of them "had been employed
in one of the non - show business
jobs most women hold, today.
If ° I had placed that ad in a
theatrical trade journal I douht if
there would have been six girls
who looked fresh enough or beau-
tiful enough for my show. Some-
how, girls who are already in the
theatrical world seem jaded and
«how a lick of interest in what
they term a routine chorus job.
The non-professionals are eager

to make good and are conscien-
tious about their first job in the
world of glamor.
When the "scandals" opens in
I .is Vegas I will present 18 beau-
tiful ijrirls, not just four or five
showgirls as most night clubs are
featuring. And none of these 18
girls will dance.
The world, today, seems overly
dance conscious. Or, I should say,
producers are dance conscious. 1
don't believe night club audiences
are interested in seeing dance
routines by be,-iutiful girls whom
they would rather ogle for the
sheer delight of it.
Within a matter of weeks, any
beautiful girl can be trained to
walk, stand and smile. This
should be her talent, until such
time that she develops other t.'il-
ents which will feature her as an
act or star.
They call them showgirls—■
why not let them be just for show ?
