The Brenham Cubs staged a
big three run, eighth inning rally
at Fireman’s Park stadium Sun
day afternoon to defeat Shelby,
7-6, and remain undefeated in
Colorado Valley League baseball
play.
Shelby had tallied five times
in the fifth inning to go ahead.
5 to 4, and after Brenham had
scored two in the last of the
fifth* Shelby posted one in their
half of the seventh to add to
the advahpo’e..
Leroy KiesbW?tte'r got his third
win of the season as he relieved
starter Alex Meschwitz in the
fifth, and finished out without
too much trouble. Meschwitz al-
lowed four runs and seven hits
during his duty, while Kiese
wetter gave up six bingles and a
pair of runs.
Morris Newman and Clarence
Alhorn divided Shelby's mound
work with the former
ctihrged with the defeat.
Brenham took the lead in the
third inning with two runs off
interference by the catcher, four
erdors and a base hit by third
sacker Fred Bredthauer.
Shelby went ahead in the fifth
on a walk, sacrifice, singles by
Alhorn. Lester Leutge and Wil
liam Stork and two basers by
Nexvman and Allen Koch.
The Cubs' fifth inning tallies
came on an infield hit by Bud
dy Mosley, a hit batsman, two
walks and single by Elroy Kan
kel.
Only one safety produced Shel-
by's stretch-frame run. Stork sin-
gled, stole second, went to third
on a wild pitch and scored on a
fly out to right by Koch.
Mosley started off the winning
rally by beating out an infield
roller, then hits followed by
Kiesewetter, Dick Wagner, and
Bredthauer to insure the victory
Shelby threatened mildly in
the ninth. After one was away.
Harris Leutge singled to right,
but was out at second trying to
stretch it into a double. Then
Stork struck out to end the con
test.
Bredthauer and Mosley paced
the victors with two hits apiece
Stork had four bingles in five
appearances at the plate and
Lester Luetge poled out three
singles in four times up.
