I Have Attempted To Keep My Campaign for
Re-Election As Mayor On A High Plane But
Many Misstatements have Been Made by The
Opposition Forces that Cannot go Unanswer-
ed.
HERE ARE THE FACTS
ft *
7. Our Municipal Park, our Municipal Airport, our NYA build-
ings, our improved sanitary sewer system, our auxiliary water well
and pump station, these and many others are all results of an aggres-
■ sive, wide-awake Mayor in Cuero and a cooperative group of City
Councilmen. That Mayor is J. T. Newman.

1. The Financial condition of the City of Cuero after 14 years of
‘ ‘ ; as "EXCEL-
LENT" by every bonding firm in the state of Texas. Few cities in
Texas are in stronger position financially than Cuero.
2. I never have •. nor will I recommend to the Council water
meters for residential consumers in Cuero. Aiderman J. J. Fischer
voted for purchase of meters for business and industrial firms \
which I favor.
3. I did favor parking meters for the benefit of Cuero but since
a majority of business men and citizens oppose them I shall make no
further effort to have them installed.
4. During my administration several unsightly, disease breed-
ing open ditches have been replaced with underground storm sew-
ers. Plans for additional sewers and surface drainage have been
drawn and are included in the City's street and drainage program. As
Mayor ! have offered complete co-operation with the Cuero Inde-
pendent Drainage District and I have suggested that the City as-
sume its responsibilities and absorb the district in order to get the
job done.
*
5. Cuero's rough streets Were built before I became your May-
or. .J. J. Fischer is the present Street Commissioner in Cuero and he
has been for the past eight years. He is in charge of all street building
and repairs. The City is planning a street paving program for 1948
when material and labor costs are lower.
.
,6. The Municipal Electric System which I fought and campaign-
ed foi in 1939 is Cuero's greatest asset. It is efficently operated,
has saved taxpayers $200,009 on their electric bills during the
past 5 years, has paid the City $48,000 in lieu of taxes and has shown a
net profit of $78,000. I waged two campaigns against strong odds in
order for Cuero to attain this great asset I am happy t6 see the op-
posing candidates all admit its great vahie.
