The secretary of state for Mis-

were no “chair legs” handy the
impudent secretary was permit-

legs to bust a skull.
The Czar is said to be trying to
secure the services of one Teddy
Roosevelt to act as peacemaker"
for him and his subjects in their
little domestic quarrel. He might
do a great deal worse, for Ted is
great on doing things and, “do-

started.

The sanitary committee re-
ported the sanitary condition of
the town l>etter than they had '
ever seen it with a few excep-!
tions and stated that the health
physician would wait on the “ex-
ceptions” and invite them tocom-i
ply with the law and if they fail
to comply with the law due com
plaint will be lodged against
them.
A committee was appointed to
confer with the stockholders of1
the public well with a view to or-
ganizing and getting the well in
such a condition that it can be
tu rned over to any private com
pany that may wish to put in a
system of waterworks. It seems
to be the sense of the council to
grant a franchise to such a com
pany in consideration for free ’
free watoi for fires and public
use provided the company will
put in a first class water works
and sewerage plant. This is one
of the most important steps I
taken lately by the council
and it is hoped that it will not be
long before a wzater works plant
is in course of construction.
The committee has already is-
sued a call for a meeting of the
stockholders which appears else-
where in the Journal. It is
hoped all the stockholders will
observe the call and attend the
meeting.
