Dean Charles N. Shepardson College Station, Texas Dear Dean Shepardson: It is with mixed emotion that I read in the AMERICAN BANKER the announcement from Washington that President Eisenhower had named you a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System for I fear that this means that you may have to disassociate yourself and resign from your highly honored position heading the Department of Agriculture at A. & M. College. Nevertheless, Mrs. Kempner and I want to tender you our heartiest congratulations on this highly deserved honor. Coming to a personal matter, confidentially we may decide to make a change on our farm and ranch at Plantersville. I am at a loss to find an experienced cattle man that could take charge of our ranch there. I have decided to discontinue the raising of cotton and to plant only grain and other feed crops. I would naturally like to have a man with some experience and, knowing that you get around among such men quite frequently, I am hopeful that you can recommend one. Would you ask anyone to whom you might speak of this matter to treat the matter confidentially? Again with best wishes to you and Mrs. Shepardson, I am Yours sincerely,
Kempner, Daniel W. (Daniel Webster), 1877-1956.[Letter from D. W. Kempner to Charles N. Shepardson, February 26, 1955],
