The Houston j-Ost has t
Ing to agy about Oscar Grab
class comedy drama "Circle
"Circle c Ranch was the
Prince Theatre last night a
8i«*-| audience witnessed ti
tion, Oscar Graham assuming ihv lead-
in grole. The story is a western mel-
odrama, teaming with the realities of
w. stern life, the opencss and honesty
of the true western man, the quality
of the western girl and is a pretty love
stor yot lote and bravery. The plot
is laid around a Rist min- which has
been willed to Pearl Hawthorne, the
pet of the ranch, by her father who
was foully murdered by Jud Andrews,
a deputy sheriff of low character, The
girl is kidnapped, and an effort is
made to get her to sign nway the right
to tho mine, lint Ben Ransome, a
young outlaw who has taken a strange
fancy to the girl, intervenes in time,
not only to save tho mine, but also
the life of the girt. Graham has a
duel role in the production being Ben
Ransome, a young, outlaw and also
Ben’s twin brother, the foreman of
"Circle C Ranch.” His elever way of
handling tho two characters was
pleasing an ^required unusual ability
in adapting himself to the traits of
two separate and distinct personages.
Miss Loretta Graham as el’arl Haw-
thorne was one of the most pleasing
characters among the cast, and her
winning way as the pet of the ranch
ami her clever mimlclng of the west-
ern ranch girl won her much merited
applause. Jess, a large dog, had one
of the leading parts and showed won-
derful training, carrying out his part
to perfection. In a critical moment
when Pearl is locked In a deserted
cabin he appears with a not to her
from Ben Ransome and waits patient-
ly an answer outside the window, re-
turning shortly to show Ransome the
way to the cabin. As a whole “Circle
C. Ranch" was a show out of tho or-
dinary and Mr. Graham proved to be
an actor of unusual merit.
“Circle C Ranch” will be the mat-
inee offering Wednesday, January 1st,
at 3 p. in.,—New Year’s Day.

The personality of a player has a
very great deal to do with the suc-
cess of the individual as well as the
piece that is being offered. For in-
stance in the George M. Cohan music-
drama, "Forty-five Minutes from
Broadway” which Latimore & Leigh
will present at the Grand with Beit
Leigh in his famous character of "Kid
Burns” the ex-slangy prize-fighter.
Miss Hazel Burgess who plays the
role of "Mary” the maid fits Into her
part so well that it would seem that
the young playwright must have had
her in his mind when constructing this
his most successful contribution to the
amusement catering stage. Her hu-
mor is so infectious and gets over the
footlights so quickly that the most
morose and woo-begone-faced pessi-
mist has to relax his serious counte-
nance and with a smile add his mite
of appreciation to his fun-making
abilities. With the man who has a
chronically cheerful point of view her
is reduced to play rather than
work, because her part is one
sparkles and scintillates from start
to finish, as do the lines of those by
whom she is surrounded. To make
the world happier and merrier seems
to have been the one thing sought by
the author of “Forty-five Minutes
from Broadway” and judging by ths
tremendous houses that have greet-
ed this piece since its first production
three years ago, he has succeeded
with practically, all the theatre-goers
in the large cities in which the piece
has been confined since that date.
