Mayor Sutherland received a tele-
gram yesterday from County Attorney
Il 11 Lewis, who went to Austin a
few days ago to look Into the matter,
in which he informed Mr. Sutherland
that the bonds of six thousand dol-
lars for waterworks extension and
eleven thousand for street improve-
ments were approved. As soon as
possible now they will be sold and
the work for which they were voted
will bo inaugurated.

District Judge Samuel J. Styles
yesterday set the date of execution
of Diggs Perry, the negro who was re-
cently convicted of the murder of
Jack Simmons, another negro on Can-
ey several months ago Judge Stiles
named Friday, March 7th, as the day
of execution.
Tiie crime for which Perry must pay
the penalty was one of the most atro-
cious in the criminal history of the
county ami the jury was not long In
deciding his fate Robbery was the
motive. Simmons was shot from am-
bush with a shotgun and ids body
dragged into a fire in his own fire-
place wdiere it was left to burn. Per-
ry, with two other negroes, was ac-
cented. Tiie trial of the other two
will come up at a later term of court
