“The Prince of Tonight/’ a Hough
ami Adams production, with a big
metropolitan success to its credit,
made its first appearance in Peoria
last night to a big Sunday night au-
dience that crowded the Majestic to
its doors. The piece is of that poetic,
fancifully worded of which these young
authors are the chief exponents and
is written in even more than their us-
ual happy vein. The hero, an impe-
cunious young soldier of fortune, is
spurned heartlessly by the girl he
loves. Along comes an ancient gard-
ener just at the fateful moment when
his favorite century plant opens the
petals of its single blossom to the kiss
of the moon. The instant of its blos-
soming is fraught with magic, and the
old gardener takes advantage of It to
turn tile rejected lover into a Prince.
His reign is for one night only, and
tie- young fellow goes to work with a
will to enjoy it. He finds, however,
that ids heart lias been the forfeit and
tnat lie is no longer capable of falling
In love. Tlie girl who lias scorned
him, finding him cold, falls in love
with him then, and the piece ends ns
joyously as the most sentimental heart
could wish.
Gay song numbers and stirring en-
sembles are included in the score and
the various scenes are spiced with a
lot of diverting comedy, bright lines
and laughable situations. The action
takes place at Palm Beach and the pro-
ducers have taken advantage of the
“HIE PRIME OF TONIGHT.”

Opportunity to give the comedy a pic-
turesque and beautiful setting, which
adds much to its pleasure-giving qual-
ities.
An excellent cast has been provid-
ed also. Tom Arnold, while looking
startlingly unlike the average musical
comedy star, made tremendously good
last night. He sings well and acts
with such earnest zeal and so much
genuine feeling as to invest the dual
role of the reckless boy and the
Prince with a most unusual effective-
ness. Little Betty Calwlell as Bon-
nie makes perhaps the biggest hit
of the production with her beautiful
dancing and alluring audacity and
chic. Eva Carey, as the heartless flirt,
who finally' capitulates to the Prince,
Is pretty and graceful, and in the
scene witli themock Prince not only
looks charming but does some very
good acting. Prank Harsha, as an
irascible fat man, was fatter and more
irascible than any other man in the
profession and was a notable factor in
the fun-making. The chorus is large
and sings remarkably well, its work
in “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now"
and other familiar Joe Howard num-
bersbelng especially good. Altogether
“The Prince of Tonight" gives exactly
the light, irresponsible entertainment
the public wants and is well calculated
to beguile and interest any lover of
musical comedy. It will be repeated
tonight. -Peoria Star.

“THE PRINCE OF TONIGHT."
A vast amount of money was spent
in producing "The Prince of Tonight,’’
coming to the Grand soon there are
three acts and four scenes in this
gorgeous extravganza. The first
scene is that of the famous hotel “The
Breakers," at Palm Beach, Florida
presenting the pleasant, surroundings
of that famous resort where every one
has money. The second scene of the
same act Is the transformation pic-
turing the mythical land of Lunitania.
showing bewildering effects. The se-
cond act takes the auditor back to
Palm Beach showing an elaborate
house boat during an evening at the
Water Fete, while the third and last
act Is the banquet on the lawn before
the hotel. It Is In this act that the
electrical effects are the most bril-
liant of anything ever attempted on n
road tour. The entire production will
be produced in this city exactly as pre-
sented during its long stay in Chicago.
