Phillips assisted her daughter in
showing her friends a delightful time.
Mrs, W. C. Berg was hostess of
the 4 M. C’s. Thursday afternoon from
I to 6:30 o’clock. Those invited were
not very prompt in arriving yet they
that were on time sewed diligently
until the last one upon the list put
in her appearance, then by the re-
quest of the hostess all hand-work was
laid aside and after paper, pencils
and cards were passed a little brain

A teachers International Bible Study
Circle was organized here last week,
I the officers elected being as follows:
Harold Swagerty, president: Miss
Bertha Funk, secretary and treasurer;
i Reverend D. 9. Burke, teacher; Mrs
iW. E. Bodford, assistant teacher. The
first, a meeting of much interest, took
place at the home of Mrs. Maggie
Bruce Thursday evening. The next
meeting will be with Mrs G. B. Cul-
ver promptly at 7:45 Thursday.
Miss Beth Phillips was the last niem-
Iber of the sewing club to entertain
Rev. John Sloan of Bay City held
services in Christ’s church here Sat-
urday afternoon and Sunday morning.
While in town he was the guest of
Mr. and Mrs. A, C. Stewart.
G. B. Culver, Morgan Smith, A.
C. and W. 8. Stewart, W. E. Wil-
liams, F. L. Rugeley and J. B. Hawk-
ins left Sunday for Houston to attend
the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows.
Miss Muta Serriil and two little
brothers, who are all three attending
[school at Bay City came home Friday
[night and remained until Monday
morning, visiting their father, broth-
ers and sister.
Mrs. J. P. Parris and baby J. P.,
after a three weeks visit to relatives
here returned to Houston Heights Sun-
day; Mrs. Annie Byars and little girl
and Mrs. J. F. Williams accompanied
them for a long visit.
Goodwin Sterne and daughter, Miss
Rose, ami Misses Minnie Dea Coffin
and Reba Rugeley motored to Bay-
City Saturday to meet Mrs. Sterne,
who had accompanied the elder Mrs.
Sterne to Victoria a few days previous.
Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Layton pur-
[ chased a beautiful Nyburg car from
J. N. Ryman and Tuesday they made
a trial trip to Bay City in it, Mr. Ry-
tnan driving the car, and Mr. and Mrs.
Lem Blair were their guests for the
[trip.
Mr. and Mrs. George Austin spent
[ Friday and Saturday here, bringing
[their cousin, Miss Kate Serriil of Dar-
by. Penn., who is visiting them, to see
their native town. Little Miss Julia
Austin was also of the party; while
hero they were the guests of Miss Jes-
sie May Serriil.

Holman, Captain J. AV. White and

nicely', however, and seemed to de-
rive a great deal of fun over the con-
test, the hostess enjoying the excite-
ment as well as the others. After
scores were counted, the first prize,
a silver thimble was claimed by Mrs.
T.em Blair, while it was found that
Miss Myrtle Duffy was dut the booby,
a paper of needles. They were then
regaled with fruit salad, stuffed dates
bread and butter and egg sandwiches
and hot chocolate. The members
present were Misses Lula Belle Sal-
ley. Jessie May Serriil, Irma Berg,
Myrtle Duffy, Helen Gilbert, Minnie
Dea Coffin, Otis Derg, Imogene Ingle-
hart, Beth Phillips and Mrs. Lem
Blair. The guests were Miss AVillio
Blair of Van Vleek, Mrs. Jotr^arrl*
of Houston, Mrs. Albert Wadsworth
of Bay City, Mrs. Henry Dugat, Mrs.
Allan Trahan. Mrs. Roland Inglehart,
Mrs. W. E. AVilliams. Mrs. Ed Baker.
Billy AVilliams arrived here from
Palacios Tuesday evening, bringing
with him his life-time friend, C. A.*
Seringp of Santa Fe, New Mexico, who
is paying him a visit. Some weeks
ago Mr. Scringo’s arrival in this coun-
ty was mentioned in the Tribune col-
umns
