To tell you all we know about JIM
BOURLAND’S MEDICATED SALT
BLOCK would require several col-
umns, and even then you would miss
our personal enthusiasm. It is a com-
bination of Salt, Sulphur, Saltpeter,
Copperas and Nux Vomica (can you
beat it?) properly proportioned, con-
verted into Block form by 80.000
pounds pressure and AIR CURED.
It is the only AIR CURED Block, or
Brick, on the market and the only one
that WILL NOT CRUMBLE when
it becomes damp. It contains as much
medicine as any 25-cent package of
Stock Food, Powder or Tonic on the
market. You merely lay it in the feed
box and they doctor themselves. The
animals naturally derive more benefit
as they follow the dictates of Nature
as to when and how much to take. To
make a long story short, we want you
to try it, and if you are not pleased
your money Muill be refunded without
argument. Come let us show it to
you. • •

THE DAILY TRIBUNE
At a meeting of the board of trade
Saturday afternoon, G. B. Culver pre-
siding, it was on motion of A. C.
Stewart, resolved to pay the expenses
of the sponsor for the Matagorda fleet
of the Intercoastal Canal celebration
on June 11-13, at the Hotel Galvez
while In Galveston, and all our boat-
men and citizenship are urged to co-
operate earnestly with Commodore
Thornhill in making Matagorda's fleet
in the great water pageant a success
in every particular.
The question of repair of the pavil-
ion walk and wharf being brought up.
is was determined to make the repairs
right away, and Joint M. Williams and
A. E. Duffy were appointed a commit-
tee to finance the proposition.—Mata-
gorda News.
Read the change in Mr. Pitink’s ad
in today's paper. His special sale be-
gan five days ago and Mr. Pitluk this
morning informed us that it has been
rather a successful affair. He is of-
fering some splendid bargains and now
is your time to buy, at your own prices,
any of the many things you are in need
of at this season of the year.

County Commissioner W. E. Mc-
Nabb says the commisioners court has
not yet determined upon the material
to be used for the public road improve-
ment in Precinct No. 1 (Bay City pre-
cinct), the court standing two for shell
and two for gravel, with the local com-
mittee about dually divided. But Mr.
McNabb suys they are collecting data
and testimony as to the durability and
economy of shell over gravel, partic-
ularly so within 60 or 70 miles of the
Matagorda shell reefs, and Mr. Mc-
Nabb thinks this information will win
the victory for shell.

M i,
Galveston, Texas, May 24.—The com-
mittee on arrangements for the open-
ing of the Galveston-Corpus Christi
section of the Intercoustal Canal wa-
terway, met Thursday afternoon and
took definite action regarding many
features heretofore undecided. It was
decided to ask the navy department to
send battleships now stationed along
the Mexican coast, near Tampico to
Galveston for this celebration, and to
arrange for the presence of the rev-
enue cutter Windom for the purpose
of taking part in the celebration.
Lieut. Newton H. White, Jr., officer
in charge of southern naval headquar-
ters at Galveston, was appointed to
command of the parade in Galveston
harbor and to arrange details for the
disposition and accommodation of from
five to eight hundred boats participat-
ing in the celebration. Lieut. White
will also have charge of the water
transportation facilities in behalf of
the thousands of visitors expects to
throng the water front for the purpose
of viewing the pageant in tlie channel.
With enthusiasm running high, this
event promises to eclipse any water
pageant ever held in southern waters
in point of size and novelty.
The celebration will last three days,
June 18, 13 and 14, and the committee
is preparing to meet the rush essential
to the final completion of the program
and details of the parade. Official
flags for the admiral, commodores and
vice-commodores w'ere selected and a
supply ordered purchased. The flags
will correspond in size and design to
those designating parallel ranks in the
navy. They will be made of blue mus-
lin witli start and other designing of
white.
• Advice was received from the Inter-
coastal Waterway League to the effect
that Admiral C. S. E. Holland was
organizing the parade along lines that
would insure a most successful, at-
tractive and impressive pageant. All
officers in tlie parade will be uniform-
ed in accordance with advices issued
from headquarters The attention of
the various commodores is called to
the fact that there are many larger
motor boats whose owners feel that
they cannot bear the entire expense of
making the run to Galveston and re-
turn. There are also many people
who desire to attend the celebration
and would gladly pay a reasonable
price for apssage on the larger boats.
Each commodore is requested to inves-
tigate this matter in his territory and
arrange if possible for the coming of
the larger boats with passengers.
Tlie committee checked over tlie
tentative program, eliminating fea-
tures thought unnecessary and assign-
ing olhers to special committees. Ac-
tivities will begin on Thursday June 12
with a breakfast at the Hotel Galvez
for the sponsors and the ma .'on of
honor. The monster boat patade w'll
follow immediately, being the f< iturj
event of the program and the medium
of attraction to many thousand peo,>b;.
The touts will form near Port Boli-
var, moving through Galves’un chan-
nel fro.n the east at. 10 a. m. Ollitr
activities will be, bathing party for
sponsors Thursday night, dance at tlie
Garten Verein for sponsors, commo-
does and invited guests, noon luncheon
at Galvez for sponsors and commo-
dores, dance at Surf bath house, mili-
tary band concert and parade.

gravel cite in-
stances of Imperfect work with infer-
ior shell in Galveston and Harris coun-
ties, where one or two contractors
used rotten shell perhaps because it
was most accessible and cheapest.
But there are thousands of miles of
fine shell roads along the southern
coast, and the fame of Mobile's shell
drives for half a century have proven
the durability and Inexpensive up-keep
of shell roads.
While there are rotten shell at va-
rious points along the coast, it is Mat-
agorda’s fortune to have an inexhaus-
tible reef of the finest shell on the
gulf coast. The mud taken out with
the shell forms a binder as close and
almost as lasting as concrete. The
government expert sent here from
Washington to assist the county au-
thorities in starting their road work,
after a thorough investigation of tlie
reefs and shell at Palacios, Galveston
and Matagorda, pronounces the Mat-
agorda shell first class and far super-
ior to anything found, so much so, that
it has already been adopted for tlie
Palacios roads; and as soon as it Is
settled in the Bay City precinct, so
that, If that also is for shell, contracts
can be made for greater quantity ar.d
thereby a lower cost, bids will be again
called for.
Mr. McNabb says that the best Gal-
veston shell must be towed 17 miles
while the Matagorda shell will have
a tow of only four miles and can be
put on cars for about 45 cents. For
work in this county the haul will be
much shorter than gravel, the material
more lasting, the up-keep much less,
in fact the cost of one mile of gravel
road will build nearly two shell roads,
and the maintenance proportionately
less.
Everything favors shell, and Mata-
gorda shell at that. It. will be a big
Industry for Matagorda, for the supply
is practically inexhaustible.—Mata-
gorda News.
At a meeting of the local lodge
Hermann Sohn it was decided to have
the annual picnic sometime In June
at Galnesmore. A special train will
be run from Bay City.
