Party Honors
Booth Harris
A surprise farewell party was
given Booth Harris last Tues-
day night by Karen Sanders in
the Sanders home in Bishop
Heights. Booth left Sunday for
Culver, Indiana, with his par-
ents, Dr. and Mrs. E. P. Harris.
Booth will be * sophomore this
year in Culver Military Academy
Meeting after band practice.
Booth’s friends lined up with in-
struments at the Sanders home
and held mock marches, roll call
and inspection. The unsuspecting
Booth was found lacking in sev-
eral respects and was read a
long list of charges — drawing
KP in true army style.
Refreshments were also served
army fashion from large com-
mercial containers, Booth get-
ting a skillet of beans for a time. ■
Adults attending the party
were Mrs. E. P. Harris, Mrs.
Glenn Underwood, Mrs. Ward
Stine, Mrs. Fred Rabom and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hodges. Oth-
ers wishing Booth farewell were
Polly. Raborn, Nancy Stine, Ma-
ry Campbell, Donna Maidens,
Gretchen Lutz, Melodie Gardner
Glenn Underwood, Terry Dor-
sey, Bill Hodges, Mike White-
cotton and the Terry Sanders
family.

You can catch flounder while
fishing off boat docks. Also in
the middle of Laguna Madre.
Or in any of the backbay waters
along the Texas coast. There is
particularly good flounder fish-
ing along the coast from Rock-
port south to Pbrt Isabel.
Flounder put up a wonderful
fight on light tackle.
- Use Live or Artificial Batt .
Last fall Doug English, who
makes Bingo baits, was stand-
ing on the concrete wall of the
basin around the Red Fish Lodge
at Port Mansfield. He was just
killing time while his boat was
being readied.
Doug flipped a yellow Bingo
alongside a concrete revetment
Next thing he knew he had a
big flounder. He caught a half-
dozen in as many casts.
Another time a group of bio-
logist working down the intra-
coastal canal decided to spend
the night off Padre Island near
the Port Mansfield cut. They
caught flounder until they tired.
A group of Sweetwater busi-
ness men headed by Earl Webb,
.10 to Port Isabel each summer.
They fish in Laguna Madre in
the vicinity of Three Islands and
catch enough flounder in a cou-
ple of days to fill their deep
freeze. “
r Usually flounder are found on
the bottom, where they do their
feeding in the mud. That is why
in the fall of the year they move
into the shallow waters, along
the coastline, to feed.
Fish for Flounder Dey or Night
There is tremendous flounder-
ing activity in the vicinity of
Port Aransas during the early
winter months. Hundreds of per-
sons, wearing hip waders and
carrying gas lanterns and gigs,
work these shallow waters.
By shining the light down on
the water they are able to see
the backs of these flounders as
the fish grope through the mud
looking for small crustaceans.
When sighted they are speared
and dropped into gunny sacks
trailing in the water behind the
fishermen.
Although fried flounder is de-
licious, undoubtedly *one of the
most appetizing fish dishes serv-
ed anywhere is a stuffed floun-
der.
Many seafood restaurants a-
long the coast make a specialty
of this delicacy.
Cooking The Ftoundsr
Stuffing of the flounder is
simple. After they are cleaned
and placed flat in a well-greased
pan, they are slit down the mid-
dle of the exposed side. Flesh
then is pulled back to make
room for stuffing.
Stuffing is made of a mixture
of onions, cracker crumbs and
celery, held together with your
favorite dressing or sauce. Once
stuffed, the flounder is placed
in the oven and cooked until
done.
There are many recipes in
the cookbooks so you can take
your choice. But whichever one

Our favorite fish in the Gulf
of Mexico knows no particular
season.
It is th* flounder... on* of
the moet unusual of all fishes.
This is a fish with many alias-
es, the moet popular of which is
the fluke. Webster describes
fluke ae a mistake. And that’s
what a flounder looks like.
It ft * fish flattened by na-
ture’s steam roller In the pro-
cess of creation. But it is a won-
derful fish to catch and eat.
Flounder fishing long has been
considered one of the favorite
night fishing sports. It can be
found in shallow waters, at night
by the use of a Coleman lantern
or a strong beam lamp of simi-
lar nature.
During the last few years rod
and reel anglers also have dis-
covered that bait fishing foi
flounder can be real sport.
A flounder will hit on most
anything that will tempt a speck-
led trout. It will fight lures. O:
it will nibble away at a live
shrimp and finally take it with
a grab.
