I want to call your attention
to the importance of choosing
and planting small grain varie-
ties that are recommended for
our area. This is particularly
true in view of the disease prob-
lems that confront the small
grain farmer. New varieties are
being developed from time to
time and plant breeders
constantly breeding • and testing
varieties for* resistance to new
races of rust and smut. •
“Some wheat varieties recom-
mended for this area include
Kaw. Quanah, Crockett, Com-
anche, and Knox. Some oat var-
ieties for this area are More-
grain, New- Nortex, Alamo-X,
and Bronco. Rogers and Cordo-
va barley is recommended. A
relatively new variety of rye is
becoming very popular and that
is Elbon Rye.
I suggest that you buy and
plant certified seed of the var-
iety that you select. In this way
you can be jure you are get-
ting pure seed and also that
you are getting the kind of seed
you are paying for.
