this striving is the very root of aH
true progress. We only urge
■ $-»ur striving Hi:- uld be di-
reote5,by integrity and honor-
not by dishonorable methods and
dishonest trickery. There may
be those who measure success by
a man’H rating in Bradstreet’s or
' in Dunn’s agencies.- We ,shall
never take this absolute standard.
’ We shall never, we Lope, .bring
ourselves to bend the knee before
any man whose sole recommen-
dation is the size of his bank ac-
count, accumulated by methods
which-Godalone knows and can-
not always approve. •
On the other hand, the man
who may abide in God’s taber-
nade and dwell in hie holy hills
because his heart is pure and his
hands arp clean, will ever be en-
titled to the respect and affection
of all who know him.
We must remember that not all
who are*called failures a--e really
8i>;foriftb fail without having and-has together with
obtained that for which we have
striven meahs failure, then our
- greatest prophets failed; then
Mosee was one of the most com-
•' ' pleie failures of humanity, for he
came to'the border of the promis-
ed land but could oo4-enter4fr»
The prize was within his grasp
but he was compelled to resign it.
We think many of us need to
rouse our conception of failure.
They fail who aye not true to the
inward promptings of their sense
of justice and right. They fail
who ha't between two opinions,
. not knowing whether to turn to
. the eternal God of right or the
Baal of convenience. They fail
who, while making a fortune,
suffer the greater misfortune by
- - permitting the Godlike that is
within them to starve to death.
Again, we say, that success.can
be purchased at too high a price..

“A. E. J/’ claim. "
It will be remembered by many
of our readers that oar townsman
A. E. Johnson went to Nevada
last year to visit his son, Cy, and
also for the benefit of his health,
and it was while there that he
discovered the piece of property
that is known as- the “A. E. J.”
claim, and believing it to be of
some value he immediately pur-
chased eighty acres of lan<| and
“dubbed''’ it the “A. E. J.” cop-
per mine. Since his return homo
hb, son has investigated the
claim closely and has found it to
be a very valuable proposition

mines mentioned caused ths or-
ganization of the above named
company.
In a letter sent out by the com-
pany thej have the followiug to
say in regard to the “A. E. J.’’
property:
“The “A. E. JI]” is practically
a copper proposition entirely,
carrying just about enough gold
and silver to cover refining
chargee. This claim is- located dq.es not irritate,
on a junction of two immdn«a:
ledges, the Mother Lode running
northeast and souULweat—and-
a cross vein running due north
and south. The shaft on this
claim has a depth of twenty feet
from which a drift has been run
for fifteen feet on a four-foot vein,
carrying high copper values.
The main ledge has been- traced
across the entire claim or a dis- brooder, in good order,
tance of 6u0 feet, and shows cop- cheap,

distance. The width of the main
