CANADIAN. HEMPHILL CO.. TEXAS
THURSDAY 27 OCTOBER 1977
At Memorial Home
Tammy Cornell
Tammy Cornell was bom 18 years ago in
Lubbock to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cornell. The
family lived in various towns while her father
was working for the Texas Highway
Department. They lived in Pampa and Kelton
among other places.
When Tammy was in the fifth grade the
family settled in Allison and Tammy
attended the Allison schools until her
graduation in 1977, one of a class of ten.
Her great pleasures during high school
were playing basketball and running track, in
both of which sports she earned quite a
reputation. Her honors began in her
sophomore year when the basketball team
won district. This was a more noteworthy
accomplishment than it might seem because
the school gymnasium had burned the
previous spring and the team had to go to
other towns once or twice a week to practice.
Also during her sophomore year Tammy
was a regional qualifier in the 880-yard dash.
In her junior year she was selected on the
all-district basketball team. She was chosen
the most athletic girl in her junior and senior
years.
Tammy was also a member of FFA, FHA
and the Annual Staff. She was on a
Parliamentary Procedure team which won
third in district.
Tammy is a member of the First Baptist
Church in Allison.
She won a basketball scholarship to Frank
Phillips College and enrolled at the school,
but decided to delay her higher education for
a year or so, then attend LVN school.
She began working for the high school in
Allison after her freshman year, painting and
doing odd jobs at the school during the
summers for three years.
After graduation Tammy began working at
the Abraham Memorial Home in the
housekeeping department, then late in the
TAMMY CORNELL
summer began working on the floor as a
nurse's aide. Her interest in nursing has
grown and she has decided to continue her
work for a year, then go to LVN school for
some formal training.
The attractive, energetic young woman is
enjoyed by both the residents and staff of the
home.
She has a brother, William. 17, and two
sisters, Becky. 15, of Allison, and Beverly
Smith, 20, of Wheeler.
