early as 1K31 was the pioneer road
builder who engineered the job will
be seen from the letter published be-
low. written by Byrd Lockhart and!
discovered last year in the city arch-

that the cost of the road amounted
to but fti'tt,, Lockhart, however, seek-

leagues of land, feeling that his work1
was worth over 11000 In his Intro-
duction he states: "Desirous of add-1
ing to the progress of this beautiful
I country,' he devoted himself "scien-
tifically to delineating and marking
roads to facilitate travel and stlliiu-

inainder of the letter follows
By my own efforts and labor I
have completed, since the end of the
year 1827, the roads from Bexar
through Gonzales to the town of Au»-
| tin, its length being t>5 leagues, and
its width being sufficient to accom-
modate wagons of a large size, and I
' have cleared away the brush ami
timber through which the road passes.
I have also opened another road from
said Gonzales to .Matagorda Bay
along the right edge of latvaea Creek,
furnishing, through this road, great
facility for the transportation of
[ everything from Gonzales to the said
i bay. and vice versa, ami It is to he
hoped that as the general govern-1

wabble, jiggle, slip or slide
Stands firin anywhere on its own legs. Folds in a jiffy.
Hangs behind the door out of the way. Saves a lot of
bother you have with old fashion boards and makes ironing
easier and much quicker.
ONE TO A CUSTOMER—WHILE THEY LAST
The purpose of this unusual offer is to make it easy for
you to have the latest and best ironing equipment.
You cannot imagine how much work and time you will save
by having a perfect ironing table and this perfect iron.
WE WANT YOU TO HAVE THIS GUARANTEED
PEERLESS ELECTRIC IRON
Because it has all the latest and best improvements to make
it do better work and last longer. The edges as well as
the point carry extra heat to meet the first shock of cold,
wet piwes without showing up or dragging. Each stroke
leaves a wider path of perfect ironing, so it takes fewer
strokes to do the work, saves time and saves effort. The
weight is full six pounds, but the balance and heat distri-
bution are so perfect that when using the iron you scarcely
feel it in your hand.
While they last we will deliver a Rid-Jid Ironing
Table with each of these irons. Only one sale to a cus-
tomer. Send no money. Pay 95c on delivery and $1.00 per
month for six months.
