Recently Bum ran to a firua
few blocks from the station. A
neighborhood dog challenged him
and Bum was taken to a hospital
for a three-day treatment of
badly chewed ears. *
A citizen complained
(Bum’s fighting, a^d an
went out that "the dog’s_____
tion with the .department must
end. A filling station operator
offered to givw-the dog a home,
and Bum was tied outside the
station. When a fire truck roar-
ed by the station Bum chewed
the rope, broke free and raced
after the truck.
Then it was that Bum was re-
moved to the farm. His new
master told firemen that the
dog bad refused food, that the
only nourishment he would take
was a little milk.
In the last few months of his
service Bum bad been fwrmitt^d
to sit on the truck when fire-
men answered an alarm. A news-
paper published Bum’s picture
once, and his owner recognized
it. The owner took the dog )iome,
btit in a few hours Bum was
back again. . ' ’
