The doctrine that one is saved
by merely mentally accrediting
that Jesus is the Christ is a very
popular—idea. One creed States
“that we are saved by faith only
is a most wholesome doctrine i^nd.
very full of comfort.” But be-
fore we accept any religious ‘
teaching, we should see what
God has said about it. .
In Gal. 5:6 PAul'-says. “For in
Jesus Christ neither circumcision
availeth anything, nor uncircum-
cision; but faith which worketh
by love.” It is a working, active
faith that saves. In Heb —11:7 we
learn that Noah was saved from
destruction by faith, not a mere
atUtudn,. -but .a -faitlr -wluU» liul
him to obedience. Likewise, Ab-
Yaham was justified, by faith, not
merely bglievlng In God*; as such,
but by doing by faith the will of
God. (Heb. 11:8-10.) .
IT we are ever saved, it will
be by ‘‘Faith which worketh by
love.” Jesus is the “author of
salvation unto all them thal obey
him” (Heb. 5:9). Just as we must
obey- God's physical laws in or-1
. , v.er to Hvc, we must obey the
“s gospel in order to live eternally
t0 | with Him. ’ .
I The facts of the gospel are the
death, bui ial ami resurrect ion ot
Chri t (I Cor 15:3,4). We must
obey a form of this (Rom. 6:17).
The Romms had “obeyed that
form of doctrine.” They died to j
the practice of sin (Rom. -6:2).
This was repentance—a turning
away from sin. They were bur-
I ied or baptized. “We are buried
with him (Christ) by baptism into
death” (Rom. 6:4)-They were then
resurrected. “That like as Christ
