Words are inadequate to pic-
tdre the unique arrangement
perfected by two rpembers of
the Thursday Club as a setting
for a delightful Thanksgiving
program on November 20 in the
clqb room. Mrs. E. Scott Avery
and Mrs. Tandy Welch, assist-
ed by Mrs. John Parrish, daugh-
ter, and by Mrs. Bob Welch,
daughter-in-law, of Mrs. Welch,
were the gracious hostesses for
this most unusual affair.
On entering the room,
bers were amazed to find them-
selves at the gangplank of a sur-
prisingly well arranged replica
of the famous old ship, the May-
flower, the name emblazoned |
over the entrance. The
Thursday Club Thanksgiving
Program is Delighi&l Affair
the deck of the Mayflower, with
brown paper railing shaping the
ship, with improvised rigging,
fishnet entwined and other fea-
tures in realistic semblance. On
the deck were tables, and from
the ship’s kitchen came the, sa-
vory smell of cooking food. From
the hold came soft music pro-
vided by Mrs. Bob Welch.
Mrs. Avery, as ship captain,
greeted guests and provided all
with blue and white crepe paper
bonnets and capes as the gang-
plank was lowered and all were
seated.
A blast from the ship’s horn
opened the program. The song,
“America,” was sung and Mrs.
major C. ’ Y. Cosby gave the invoca-
portion of the club room became ion.
Food, fit for a king, was served
by the hostesses. This included
fruit cocktail, salad, turkey with
i dressing and gravy, cranberry
sauce, candied yams, asparagus
tips, hot biscuit, coffee, ice cream
and cake.
The program enjoyed by all
included a delightful story told
by Mrs. John B. Hunt,
Happy Prince,”
exemplifying kihdly devotion to
a sacrificial task. She ended with
the poem, “Uphill,” by Rossetti,
and her theme contained in the
words of Byron, “All who joy
woujd^win must share it. Happi-
ness was born a twin.”
Mrs. T. Roy Coffield reviewed
I a story in the vernacular of • a |
kindly disposed old. lady, Aunt
Jane, fronvthp book “Aunt .Tane'

are also contributing their serv-

Store managers may have clos-

Lum Lovette, Chamber of
Commerce president, said the
City has agreed to furnish
Christmas street lighting again
this season, in so fag as the sup-
ply of scarce copper wire and
supplies will permit. Comment-
ing on the program Lovette said:
“Vfe certainly appreciate the fine
spirit of co-operation that is
making possible this Christmas
program and the appearance of
Santa Claus, the live reindeer,
and the wonderful event we
hope it will be.”
