The Lavaca County Com-
missioners’ Court voted to lift
the bum ban at its Monday
morning meeting. The bum
ban lift is effective as of noon
this past Monday (Jan. 24)
and was in place since mid-
December.
County judge pro-tem
Charles Netardus presided
over the meeting in the ab-
sence of County Judge Tramer
Woytek, who was attending a
judge’s training conference in
Lubbock.
The court agreed to moni-
tor weather conditions and re-
consider at a later date should
conditions occur causing a re-
applying of the bum ban.
Lavaca County Sheriff
Micah Harmon submitted his
department’s 2010 racial pro-
filing report.
Harmon reported that his
deputies had conducted a total
of 676 vehicle stops last year.
The Sheriff said 444 of these
stops involved white subjects,
155 Hispanic subjects and 73
black subjects. Harmon added
that these stops involved 31
drivers that were under 18
years of age, 261 drivers be-
tween 18-29 years of age, 147

to seek county employees
interested in participating in
a weight watchers program
sponsored by Texas Associa-
tion of Counties (TAC).
According to Fishbeck, TAC
has a minimum requirement of
20 people to attend 17 weekly
meetings and is open to people
who are not employed by
the county. She said the cost
to enroll is $186 and those
county employees who attend
at least 80 percent (14 out of

Sales from the 2011 Yoakum Project Show
Auction bounced back from last year’s below-
average sales.
This year’s sales totaled $211,296.65, more
than $25,000 from 2010, said Jay Mixon, ag
teacher at Yoakum High School.
“Last year was kind of a depressed sale be-
cause of the economy, but we got a big part of
that back,” Mixon said just after calculations
were in. “We’re tickled to death.”
Mixon also said this year’s sales were im-
pressive, considering the lot of 70 animals was
fewer than in years past. “So the average per
kid is probably the highest we’ve ever had,”
he said.
Mixon credits a better economy and more
oil activity in the community with the higher
sales. “And there were a lot of new buyers who
we weren’t really expecting, and that had a
lot to do with it,” Mixon added.
• Kyle Schoenemann showed the grand
champion steer and it sold for $8,970. Buyers

Jimmy Appelt the required meeting atten-

a little over $2 per meeting,”
Fishbeck said.
Fishbeck added that the
program is open to individuals
not employed by the county
but TAC would only re-im-

county.
The court voted to amend
the charge for obtaining a
permit for the use of a right-
of-way to lay pipeline across a
county road to $500 for each
roadway that is crossed. The
original permit fee was $400
for each roadway crossed and
the amended permit went into

A request from County
Clerk Elizabeth Kouba to
move county clerk’s microfilm

was approved by the court.
Kouba said she found a fa-

would charge $10 per box of
film. The county clerk added
that she anticipates having
approximately 8-10 boxes and
the company would come to
Shiner to pick up the film.
County Treasurer Karen
