Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schafer are pleased to announce the engage-
ment of their son, Blaine Mathew Schafer, to Ashley Elizabeth
Vogel. Ihe bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry L.
Robbins of Lockhart. She is a 2010 graduate of Lockhart High
School and is currently attending Victoria Nursing College in
Victoria. Ashley is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Vogel,
and the great-granddaughter of Mr. R. H. Henslee, all of Lock-
hart. The groom is a 2008 graduate of Yoakum High School. He
is serving in the United State Coast Guard, currently stationed in
Port O’Connor. Blaine is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Schumann and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Schafer, all of Yoakum. The
couple plan to wed in Lockhart on March 12, 2011.

Dinner with trimmings on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the St. Joseph Family
Center. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. with dine-in or plates to go at
$7 per plate donation. Baked items and homemade noodles will be
for sale in the country store. Proceeds from the event will g toward
nursing scholarships. St. Joseph Catholic Church, and St. Joseph
School. Catholic Daughter members are pictured making noodles
for the event.

Yoakum Heritage Museum

Membership Drive underway
Yoakum Heritage Museum 2011 Membership Drive is
currently underway at the museum. The museum is depen-
dent on donations and support from individuals, businesses
and organizations in the community. Yearly membership
dues are: Individual - $15, Family - $25, Business Gold
- $200, Business Silver - $100, and Business Bronze - $50.
Membership forms may be picked up at the museum or call
293-7022 to have a form mailed to your address.
The Museum will host a Spring Treasure Sale on the
grounds of the museum. We will accept items in good
condition for the sale. However, we will no accept clothing
or shoes. Items needed are furniture, dishes and glass-
ware, linens, jewelry, aprons, tablecloths, paperback and
hardback books, collectibles, home decor items, blankets,
bedspreads, garden equipment and supplies, kitchen
appliances, toys, games, fabric and sewing supplies (sew-
ing machines, etc.), vases, pottery and silverware. Also,
vintage linens, crochet and embroidered table scarves;
vintage wooden furniture; vintage glassware and dishes,
and old tools.
Anyone wishing to donate items to the museum for the
Spring Treasure Sale, may drop them off at the museum
or call to have them picked up. For more information call
Connie at 361-293-7022 or Martha at 293-2061. Proceeds
from the sale will be used to redo the wood floors upstairs
at the museum and also for other repairs and projects.
The museum will be closed on Sunday during the month
of January. Christmas trees may be taken down during the
month of January. Please call the museum at 293-7022 for
times to pick up your tree.

A funeral mass was offered
at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan.
24 at St. Laurence Catholic
Church at 3100 Sweetwater
Blvd, in Sugar Land with
Father Reggie Samuels offi-
ciating. Interment followed
at Greenlawn Memorial Park
in Rosenberg.
Visitation was held from 5
to 8 p.m., with a rosary being
recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Jan. 23 at Davis-Greenlawn
Funeral Chapel in Rosen-
berg.
Honored to serve as pall-
bearers were his sons, Wood-
row, Jr., Jim, Mark and Tim
along with brothers-in-law,
Lee Horan and Stanley Kro-
vontka. Honorary pallbearers
included: Jacob Coppedge,
Joe Payne, Lee Payne, Tommy
Schneider, Bob Ward, John
Sudela, Philip Christensen
and Paul Krovontka.
Immediately following
graveside services, all were
invited to greet the family
during a reception to be held
at St. Laurence Parish Hall.

Woodrow (Woodie)
Coppedge passed away on
Thursday, Jan. 20 at the age
of 69. He was bom in Yoakum
on Aug, 13, 1941.
Woodrow, “Woodie”, (as
most knew him), was in the
USAF and was retired from
Santa Fe, Katy and Union
Pacific Railroads. He worked
as an Insurance Agent for the
Knights of Columbus and
was retired from the Xerox
Corporation where he worked
in San Antonio and Houston.
Woodie loved golfing, travel-
ing with his son and family to
the Carribean and visiting his
daughter and son-in-law and
their family in Florida. He
was a Master Gardner.
He grew up in Hochheim
and went to school in Sweet
Home where his mother
taught school. He was a grad-
uate of Kirwin High School in
Galveston and had a degree
from Galveston College.
Woodie was preceded
in death by his parents,
Woodrow and Bessie (Lanik)
Coppedge.
He is survived by: his wife,
Marcie Krovontka Coppedge;
three sons, Woodrow, Jr. of
Houston, Jim and his wife,
Krista Gibson Coppedge
of Sugar Land, and Mark
and his wife, Katie Wronka
Coppedge of Richmond; two
daughters, Lisa Coppedge of
Waco and Carmel Coppedge
Turman and husband, Tim
Turman of Ocala, Florida;
daughter-in-law, Catherine
Donaldson Coppedge of
Sugar Land; sister, Carol
Coppedge Horan and her
husband, Walter Lee Horan
of Bakersfield, California;
one grandson; six grand-
daughters; mother-in-law,
Carmel Krovontka of Sugar

The bride is a 2000 gradu-
ate of Yoakum High School.
She is employed by Noble
Americas, and is pursuing a
degree in Supply Chain and
Logistics from the University
of Houston.
The groom is a 2001 gradu-
ate of Pasadena High School.
He is employed by Kirby Inland
Manne.

Women to speak on Legislature
The Republican Women of
Yoakum will hold its monthly
meeting on Wednesday, Feb.
2, at the Yoakum Community
Center at 501 Huck St. in
Yoakum.
The keynote speaker will
be Peggy Venable, State Di-
rector-Texas, for Americans
