Hurricane Kit
I took a few days off last week after the 4th of July
holiday and we went to Port Aransas to soak up some sun
and fun. I don’t remember when fishing has ever been
this bad. My daughter and I fished Saturday and we quit
after three hours because we never lost a bait. It’s really
bad when the hard heads don’t even bite.
•Last week I promised to get a list of hurricane prepara-
tion items to survive a week with out electricity. They are:
•Water - 1 gallon per day, per person.
•Food - 7 day supply of non perishable, easy to prepare
foods. If you like it hot you will need some type of camp
stove.
•Flashlights, radio, lanterns with extra batteries and
fuel.
•First aid kit
•Medications - 7 day supply.
•Sanitation and personal hygiene items.
•Extra cash and car should be full of fuel in case you
have to leave.
•If you have to leave, take important papers, documents,
and insurance papers with you.
Thanks,
Quote of the week: “The difference between fiction
and reality? Fiction has to make sense.”

The great river tour
Well folks, not much to re-
port this week, except the
grass is dying and I need
some rain. In other news:
I have some folks asking
if Pm ever going to start
up that river-touring com-
pany that I talked about a
few years ago. You might
remember that my plan
was to build a glass-bottom
boat and charge folks to
take a cruise on the beau-
tiful Lavaca River. We
would start from around
Sycamore Pool and go to
the river bridge in Halletts-
ville and back. I planned to
serve Big Orange, koiaches,
and pigs in a blanket (Yan-
kees might know them as
sausage wraps). And of
course, if you bring your
own pole and bait, you can
fish along the way. The two
ugly twins from Sublime,
Theo and Cleo, will serve as
deck hands - they also said
they would bait the hooks
for the ladies. I had two dif-
ferent fellows working on
the boat from time-to-time.
One of them fives down
in Clute, Texas - his name
is “Kid Shelleen” and he
never finished the boat be-
cause he couldn’t stay away
from the Big Orange long
enough to get anything
done. His momma must
have known how he was go-
ing to turn out because she
named him after that drunk
in the movie Cat Ballou. My
buddy from the old Dung
Beetle Saloon days, “Loose
Screw,” worked on the boat
for a while until he had
some problems with a nail
gun and a piece of plywood.
Anyway, the unfinished
boat is sitting by my pond
waiting to be completed. If
we ever get it going, I plan
to charge $20 for the round
trip. And, Pm not responsi-
ble if you have to spend the
night on a sandbar; and you
better bring plenty of mos-
quito repellant. But we’ll
need some rain before we
start On that bit of news,
Hl leave you now and go
feed the fish ____
