grades. Strict Low Middling
Light Spot was the predominant
grade with over one half of the
receipts. Only a few Below
Grade, Barky or Grassy samples
were showing up. Staple lengths
were largely 7/8 and 29/32 with
only about 3 percent of the cot-
ton with-staple length of 15/16 of
an inch. Micronaire readings of
3.5 and above accounted for
around 90 percent of the receipts.

culture Marketing Service turned
out 27,298 samples for the week
of October 9-16, around

Cotton Receipts
Pick Up Due
To Weather
Warm dry weather prevailed
generally last week and was fa-
vorable for cottan harvesting
said Roy W. Gilreath, Officer in
Charge of the U. S. Department
of Agriculture Classing Office in
Dallas.
Samples receipts increased
this past week as producers took
advantage of open weather. Light
rains slowed field operations for
a short time. Gins were current
with their rereipts and some
were idle part of the day. The
larger percent of the open cotton
was out of the fields but there
is still a lot of bolls to open for
harvesting. Stalks of late de-
foliated field were slow in dry-
ing and delayed harvest in some
localities. Some sources expect
harvesting of the remainder of
this seasons crop to drag out un-
til late next month.
There was little change in the
