a "ladies' night" picnic Thursday
night at the 8. C. W. camp at Lake
Dallas, with 60 persons attending.
At the business sesMon the Lions

tion to be held in Waco June 5 and

the meeting to bring the 1940 con-
vention of 56 counties to Denton.

The annual junior-senior prom
1 to be held this evening at the high
school gymnasium will be the first
of the school-closing activlti** plan-
ned honoring the graduating class
at the senior high school.
At this traditional affair, mem-
bers of the Junior class entertain
the seniors The dance will begin
at 8 o’clock, and Bid Hamilton and
his orchestra will furnish music. In
charge of arrangements are two
committteee. a faculty committee
and a student committee. On the
former are Miss Mary Mizell. Miss
Mary Kathryn Tevis, Miss Eliza-
beth Lyorf, H V Stanton. Miss Mar-
jorie Lynn Collier and Miss Oene-

includes Misses Mary Ruth Holmes,
president of the Junior class, Betty

The Juniors and seniors are to
have a Joint picnic also next week,
the date to be set by the execu-
tive committees of both classes at
a meeting Monday Friday morn-
ing. May 26. the traditional senior
class assembly will be held in the
school auditorium, with the class
will, history and prophecy to be
read at that time. Tip Hall Jr., class
president, will be in charge of the
program That evening the Tennis
Club at the school will give a
dance for members and their guests
in the old gymnasium in the base-
ment of the school building, with
the graduating seniors who are
members of the club to be honored

School, P.-T. A will entertain the
seniors, including mid-term, spring
and summer graduates, with an all-
day picnic at the Denton Coun-
try Chib
The students also are making pre-
parations for those two big final
events. baccalaureate and com-
mencement Henry Amlin and Miss
Winifred Evans were elected by the
popular vote of the class to deliver
the welcome and parting ad-
dresses. respectively, at the com-
mencement exercises to be held
Wednesday night. May 31. at the
First Methodist Church Baccalau-
reate services will be held at the
church Sunday night. May 28 Rev.
J Frank Weedon, pastor of the
First Baptist Church, will deliver
the baccalaureate sermon, and Dr
W B Bisell, president of Oklaho-
ma University, will give the com-

Clarence Kuhlman of the econ-
omies staff of the Teachers College
ha* resigned his position at the
college to accept a post as assistant
director of a WPA study of various
phases of municipal government in
North Carolina, President W J Mc-
Connell has announced.
The study, which will take from
18 months to two years to complete,
to being sponsored by North Caro-
lina University, and will incorporate
work already done by Kuhlman
toward his doctorate—a study of
municipal utilities in North Caro-
lina Kuiilman is in North Caro-
lina. where he assumed his new
position this month.
Kuhlman Joined the staff at
North Texas in 1935 He was on
toave the next two years working .
toward hto doctorate at the Univer-
sity of North Carolina His bache-
kir s and master's degrees were re- '
reived from the University of Tex-
as. He served as a member of the
committee on governmental and so-
cial aspects of the Texas Planning
Board in 1935-36 and was public
utilities research consultant of the
North Carolina League of Muni-
cipalities in 1937-38
