[las Hicks appealed to Denton rM-
( John L. Patton of Denton has
been notified by the U. S. War De-
partment that the Purple Heart
has been awarded posthumously to
his son, Pvt. Carl C. Patton, who
was killed Sept. 30. 1M4. by ene-
my machine gun fire in Italy. Pvt.
Patton went overseas early in 1044
and wm wounded in action Jan. 27.
at which time he wm first awarded
the Purple Heart. After recovery
he went back into action and
served continuously until his death.
-Patton, who recently moved to
Denton from Duncanville, has an-
other SOh. Technical Sgt. Shares H
Patton, who is now stationed at the
Muroc Air Bare in California after
22 months with a U. 8. Air Force
in China. Sgt. Patton received five
decorations while there. «
Fvt. Carl Patton's death is the
first \aumity of the 17 members
of this family now serving in the
U. 8. armed forces.

South Pacific Hospital
1 Lieut Wm. P. Simpeon of Derf-
ton Is now convalescing hr a hos-
pital in ths South Pacific, accord-
ing to a letter received from him
by his mother. Mrs Paul Simp-
son, 018 South Myrtle Street. He
writes that his plane made a crash-
ed landing in tiu> ^ea after beiw
hit by enemy fire and that he suf-
fered injuries that included bums
on the face and hands. Another
plane picked up Lieut Simpson and
his crew about 15 minutes after their
plane crashed.

ly assigned to the AAF redistribu-
tion station of the Santa Ana Ar-
my Air Bases after having served
overseas in England. North Africa
and Italy, according to a public re-
lations story. At Banta Ana. return-
ed veterans from overseas air forces
receive complete medical examina-
tions, reclassification according to
military skills and reassignment to
domestic stations of the AAF.
Godfrey Dee Palmer, seaman first
class tn the U. 8. Naval Reserve,
spent his flrot leave at the home
of his grandmother, Mrs. Nolle
Carter, and his uncle, Loyd Carter.
Welch Street. He has just return-
ed from 17 months of duty in the
South Pacific. His mother, Mrs. Lo-
vete Pelmer, end two young broth-
ers came from California to be with
him while he Was here on leave.

death of a grandmother, Mrs. R.
