Optimists Win
Donkey Games
Dentcaa’s Optimist Club won the
first annual "Hee Haws of 1348’’
Friday night as they captured all
four events on the program from
the Javcees at the local high school
football stadium.
The Optimist began their suc-
cessful evening by winning 'he
musical flag race as their last man I
made all five stations to win the 1
event. In the polo game, the Optim-
ist Clubbers won 3-0 There were I
five men of each team and the play-1
ers used brooms for mallets ,
Doc Pltner ot the Optimist Club I
won the milking contest with a
time of 108 and Ones Hodges of the
Jaycees was second in 1:07.
The Optimists won the 5 - Inn-

the fans cheered the two teams.

and beaded for Austin to show
the finer points of the university's
spacious campus and the enlarge-
ment of Memorial Stadium. Of
course, everyone knows that the
stadium is being enlarged to hold
approximately 65,000 for next
season. This was probably one
of their main selling points. It's
not every day that you can play
before 65,000 people with money.

It seems sorts’ stupid to get m
excited over one football player
when there are hundreds and hun-
dreds more in the state. No. not of
the same caliber of the great Mt
Townsend but one man can't win
a ball game—not even Byron Town-
send No one can blame the boy for
being a good football player nor can
anyone blame him for wanting to
see the good schools of Texas. But
when these big schools rant and
rave over a player and make a
spectacle of him they stand a bet-
ter chance of losing that player
than they do getting him.
Over McKinney
Denton High's Broncos handed
Coach Johnny Guyer a present
for the season finale as the base-
ballers defeated McKinney 3-1 in
the last district game for Denton
this season.
James Magill went the distance
for the Brones giving up eight hits
and walking four tn his last game
in a DHS uniform. Magill struck
out four.
McKinney opened the scoring
in the bottom half of the first inn-
ing as they scored their only run
on a single, a sacrifice hit and a
fly out to left field. Davis, third
base, opended the Lions' half of
the frame with a single, went to
third on a sacrifice bunt and came
home on a fly to deep left field
The Brones got the run back in
the second as Davis Lowe, center
field, singled, stole second and
came home on Bill White's sln-
