Association of Texas from the organization’s president, Guy

lengths were somewhat short-
er than last week with only 14
percent stapling 34 and longer
compared to 51 percent last
week. Sixty-one percent stapl-
ed 33 and 23 percent stapled
32. Micronaire readings im-
proved slightly with 62
percent miking in the desir-
able 3.5 - 4.9 range, compared
to 56 percent last week.
Thirty-one percent miked 5.0
and higher.

Ramon Perez, Jr., son of

Perez of Mercedes, is sched-
uled to receive a Bachelor of
Science degree Friday, August
13, at Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity.
Seventy-six students will
receive degrees in the
summer commencement,
which begins at 8 p.m. in
Behrens Chapel-Auditorium.
Delivering the commencement
address to the August
graduates will be Dr. John P.
Newport, professor of religion
at Rice University. Prof.
Thurman Morrison of the
H-SU music faculty will
receive an honorary degree.

Cotton market activity still reported light
Hot, dry weather prevailed
most of last week allowing the
cotton harvest to continue,
according to J.N. Brevard, in
charge of the USDA’s
Harlingen Cotton Classing
Offece. Scattered showers
stopped picking operations in
a few places, but fields dried
quickly and harvesting resum-

70.25 cents per pound.
Several hundred acres of the
1977 crop were contracted at
65.00 cents with quality
stipulations.
Farmers received $90 to
$95 per ton for cottonseed.
Approximately 35,600 sam-
ples were classed for the week
ending Friday, August 6,
bringing the season’s total to
53,200. This compares to
20,200 as of this date last
year.
