recent visit to the Dallas studio where Big Tex lives dur-
ing the off-season, Marla and Cindy got a close-up look at
the boots which belong to the 52-foot high symbol of the
State Fair of Texas, the nation’s largest annual exposi-
tion in terms of attendance. Big Tex — and also Marla
and Cindy — will be ready and waiting to greet visitors
to the 1963 State Fair in Dallas when the gates swing
open on Saturday, October 5.

Henry Kirksey
Dies at Lorenzo
R. C. Kirksey received word
this past Thursday that his
brother, Henry Kirksey of
Lorenzo, had suffered a stroke
and was critically ill in the
Crosbyton Hospital. Mr. and
Mrs. Kirksey and R. E. Kirk-
sey went to Crosbyton that
afternoon. R. E. Kirksey
turned that night and his par-
ents remained.
Henry Kirksey died on Sun-
day morning. Mr. and Mrs. R.
E. Kirksey went to Lorenzo
to attend the funeral on Mon-
day of this week, and upturned
that night with Mr. Kirksey’s
parents accompanying them.
Henry Kirksey was born in
Dover, Arkansas on May 31,
1891. He moved to Lorenzo,
Texas in 1915 where he had
resided until his death.
Funeral services were held
in the First Methodist Church
of Lorenzo, of which Mr. Kirk-
sey was a member.
Mr. Kirksey is survived by
his wife: one daughter, Mrs.
W. A. Townsley of Lorenzo;
one granddaughter, Lisa Town-
sley: two sisters. Mrs. Fannie
Hendricks of Rogers, Texas
and Mrs. Addie Derr of Port
Arthur; and one brother. R. C.
Kirksey of Throckmorton.
Nephews were -pallbearers
and included R. E. Kirksey of
Throckmorton.

21-0, last week and now takes
its second District 7-B eleven.
The locals are 4-1 this year
and the Knox City Greyhounds
are 2-3. However, two of the
three losses were to Class A
Archer City and Munday and
the third was to strong Class
B Matador which Throckmor-
ton meets next week.
Knox City, which whipped
Valley View, 34-6, last week,
stands second in District 7-B

ord to four wins with one loss
last Friday night by running
over the Rule Bobcats, 21-fl, in
a non-conference grid battle
at Rule.

third quarter. Throckmorton
drew blood again in the fourth
quarter with a dive from the
six-yard line that was set up
by a blocked punt on the Bob-
cats 18-yard line. The conver-
sion failed.
