placed among the tables on the
lawn.

terrace.
On a glass top table was »

a carved watermellon filled
witlh cantaloup balls, water-
mellon, pineapple chunks,
fresh strawberries and banana
slices. This was served with
colored toothpicks as an appe-
tizer prior to the main course.
The menu consisted of barbe-
cued ham, baked potatoes,
green beans, various kinds of
salads, tea and coffee and pie
for dessert.
Each member brought some
of the food that was served
to 32 people, including three
young women from the Baptist Thompson and ]
seminary of Fort Worth, who Lilly, Thursday,
brought the program for the
evening.

I Staples from the pantry shelf make this meal-in-minutes for summer-’
time good eating. It’s thrifty two ways, too—in preparation time and
cost
i Canned tuna, peas and whole kernel com blended in a sauce made
extra smooth and richly flavorful with evaporated milk, is the main
feature of this meal-in-one. The base is rice, first fried golden brown
in butter, then steamed to fluffy rosiness in tomato juice. So that the
two are ready for service at the same time, start the rice on its way,
then prepare the tuna while the rice is cooking.
TUNA SPECIAL WITH TOMATO RICE
2 cans tuna (6-1/2 to 7 oz. 1 can whole kernel com (8 oz.)
each) 1 tall can evaporated milk
. 1 small onion, chopped (1-2/3 cups)
1/4 cup flour Salt and pepper
1 can peas (8 oz.)
Ai.ain oil from tuna into a medium size saucepan. ^dcTcSTon and
cook over low heat until tender. Remove from heat Stir in flour,
keeping smooth. Stir in liquid from peas, blending thoroughly; then
stir in liquid from corn and mix well. Add evaporated milk; return:
to low heat and cook until sauce is thickened, stirring constantly.
Add peas, com and tuna, breaking tuna into chunks With a fork as
it is added. Cook until hot, stirring constantly. Add salt “J
to taste. Makes 6 servings.
Fried Tomato Rice: Melt 1/4 cup butter in a large skillet. Add 1 cup
un-cooked rice; cook over low heat until golden, stirring frequently.
Add 1 can tomato juice (2-1/4 cups). Cover tightly arid cook slowly
until rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Remove cover. Add 1 teaspoon
salt and leave over heat until rice is fluffy, about 1 minute, tossing
with a fork. __
Mrs. Lois Hampton and
Mrs. Iva Powell of Abilene vi-
sited here Sunday and Mon-
day. Mrs. Hampton visited in
the home of her sister, Mrs.
Kirksey, and Mrs. Powell vis-
ited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Tam Pendergrass, and
spent the night with her sis-
ter, Mrs. Berry Smith, and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Cris-
well are visiting in the home
of her father, Mrs. Paul Har-
rington, and helping with the
harvest.
Mrs. Martha Harrell, a for-
mer tfaicher here, and her/son
from. Aspermont visited here
with friends Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Martin
are visiting and attending a
