was Wilbert Humphries. He was
born in 1941 in South Whitewright
and graduated from school here. He
spent 2 years in the service overseas
and an additional year in China. He
currently resides in Austin, Texas
and has been employeed by Texas
Instruments for 21 years.
Now it’s time to guess again! Do

Mrs. H.S.Sherrett of Portland,
Ore., has announced the engage-
ment of her daughter, Miss Florence
Sherrett, to Leon Davidson, son of
Mr. and Mrs. J.W.Davidson of
Whitewright.
Elmo Savage of the Medintown
community and Miss Lillie Jenkins
were married Saturday evening.

Julian Sloan, who lives on the
Ralph Wallace farm southwest of
Whitewright, brought in the first
bale of cotton Tuesday afternoon.
White and Donigan bought the
cotton at 12 1/2 cents per pound and
the Chamber of Commerce gave Mr.
Sloan a $20 premium.
Percy Darwin has let the contract
for a $5,000 brick veneer dwelling in
Whitewright.
Lloyd Moore was program chair-
man for the Rotary club Friday and

Mrs. J.F.Lilley, Miss Monta Bad-
gett and Ernest Lilley have gone to
St. Louis where they will buy goods
for the J.L.Lilley dry goods store.
J.L.Cantrell was elected as a
delegate to the State Democratic
convention at the Grayson county
convention held in Sherman, Satur-
day afternoon.
Miss Edna Stuteville has accepted
a position as bookkeeper in the
Manning and dark hardware store.
Miss Clara Horton, cashier in the
Lilly dry goods store, is taking her
vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bow have
moved to Medley.

of the Baptist General convention,
as the speaker.
Eugene Hughes of Sherman and
Miss Opal Cates, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Cates of Whitewright
were married at Madill, Okla.,
Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Owen Hull and Miss Velma
Lee Cates entertained with a lingerie
shower Friday afternoon for Mrs.
Eugene Hughes. Guests were Miss-

Blanks, Fae Wood, Clevis Gates,
Elizabeth Waggoner, Irene Rector,
Mardell pumphrey, Margaret Pierce,

[From The Sun of Aug. 11, 1955]
Clyde Robinson of the Ida commun-
ity brought the first bale of cotton to
Whitewright Aug. 8. It was ginned
free at the Whitewright Gin which
also gave Robinson a $25 cash
premium. Findley Haile of Lester
Haile Seed and Grain Co. bought
the seed at $75 per ton. Robinson
did not sell the bail but took it to
Sherman where he was given $100
in merchandise by a department
store. Mayor Russell Summers re-
» ported he had raised a premium of
t $83 in cash and merchandise to
? present Robinson. It was the fifth
( year Robinson had brought in the
r first bale.
< The Whitewright Housing Authori-
? ty had signed a contract with a
? Honey Grove contractor to build 16
) housing units here at a cost of
$122,433. Roy Blanton, chairman,
J said Work was expected to start on
the project within a week or two.
A The same contractor will build eight
i units at Tom Bean.
1 A travel film on Arizona was
' presented as the program for the
Rotary Club, Friday. S.T.Montgom-
ery, Jr., was program chairman.
Miss Beverly Bassett was to be in
Chicago Friday night to appear with
the Kilgore College Rangerettes at
the all-star football game at Sold-
ier’s Field.
