and the other is at senior high. We
all should be very pleased with our
band and this is just one way to
show our appreciation of the work

Literary Club.
The 1990-91 year of The Friday
Literary Club has begun. This years
course of study is “Three R’s for
the Environment.” Repair, Refur-
bish, and Recycle. Several of the
members will be going to

and Gracie Lambert held their 54th
family reunion Sunday at the
Whitewright Community Center.
This years attendance was around
125. There were people from
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Ft. Worth,
Tyler, Garland, Howe, Denison,
Tom Bean, Whitewright, Bells and
Sherman.
The FBC will be having a get
acquainted Bar-B-Que this coming
Sunday, Oct. 28th after the morning
service. After the meal there will be
an afternoon service and the Lord’s
Supper. NO night service.
VISITS & VISITORS
Harry Elliott of Mumford, Tenn,
has returned after spending a week
visiting his mother, Ruth Elliott and
his brothers, Harley at Arlington
and D.N. at Farmers Branch. The
brother^ spent Saturday in Tom
Bean at their mothers home.
Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Sneed have had
several visitors this past week, Mrs.
Vesta Harden and daughter
Katherine of Dallas. A brother,
Herman Harden of Royce City and
a sister, Agnes Rooker of Dallas.
Don and Donna Hamilton visited
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Nichols Sunday
afternoon.
Jim and Maud Morris visited with
Rommie Byers Sunday afternoon.
Louise Shaw and Joan Hopper
went to Furr’s Sunday for lunch,
The Tom Bean Chamber of
Commerce met Oct. 15th for its
regular meeting. Yard of the Month
was awarded to Patti Hanni of Tom
Bean. Mary Allen was named
Citizen of the Month for her hard
work in the Chamber’s re-cycling
efforts. The Chamber also voted to
purchase 2 sets of bunker gear and
2 smoke cutter flashlights for the
Tom Bean Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment. . The next Chamber meeting
will be the annual banquet held
November 19th at 7 p.m. in the
high school cafeteria. Tickets can be
purchased from any Chamber
Director or at the door.

The P.T.O.’s biggest fund raising
event is the Fall Festival to be held
October 27th. The festival begins at
6 p.m. and will be held at the
football field. There will be lots of
game booths, (including bingo &
cake walk), food booths and fun for
everyone. This year there will be a
Fall Festival King & Queen
crowned and caped from each
campus.
Other events include a craft fair
and chili supper to be held on
November 12th beginning at 6 p.m.

FALL ARTS & CRAFTS
SHOW & SALE
Frontier Village is holding its 36th
Bi-Annual Fall Arts and Crafts
show and sale at the National
Guard Armory in Denison. The
show and sale will take place on
Saturday and Sunday November 3
& 4th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It will feature 65 crafters with
Christmas gifts and Idea. Also
homemade cakes, pies, cookies,
hotdogs, chili, nachos and cold
sandwiches. There will be door
prizes hourly. Admission is free.

SCHOOL SELECTED FOR AWARD
Whitewright High School was
recently selected for a Performance
Gains award by the Governor’s
Educational Excellence Committee.
The school was nominated for the
award on the basis of test score
performance over the past three
years. The awards ceremony
attended by the Governor will be
held October 20th at the Capitol at
2 p.m.
The committee believes that the
awards program will provide a
mechanism for recognizing out-
standing effort and providing
schools with additional incentives to
strive for high levels of academic
performance and gain.

When Linda Vickers, chairman of
Option Exercisers Adopt-A-Highway
2 miles from Highway 11 on
Highway 151 toward Orangeville
picked up Trash last week from this
area, she was pleased to report only
4 bags plus about 3 half bags of
trash.
This is a large reduction of trash
in the past year, so it could be
that:) residents of the area are
walking and keeping the roadsides
cleaner; 2) Drivers and occupants
are not pitching as much.

The Tom Bean First United
Methodist Church will hold a
Bazaar November 3rd from 9 a.m.
until 6 p.m.
The ladies of the church will have

GRANT AWARDED
The Grayson County Cooperative
will provide personal training for
educators and staff on a U.S.
Department of Education Grant
Award Drug Free Schools and
Communities in the amount of
$117,891 to the following six school
districts, Tom Bean ISD, Bells ISD,
Tioga ISD, Whitewright ISD,
Collinsville ISD, and Pottsboro ISD.
Activities include Student Assis-
tance Team Training, Self-Esteem
Training, Kids Against Drugs
Training, and various activities
associated with substance abuse
prevention in the field of education.

E.E. “Buck” McFatridge, 69-year-
old vice president of Carl’s Sausage
Company of Whitewright, were held
Wednesday morning in Earnheart
Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Rodney Stanford, pastor of the First
Baptist Church in Whitewright and
the Rev. Bill McFatridge officiating.
Masonic graveside rites were
conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday
in Highland Cemetery in Durant, jwright Middle

Mr. McFatridge was born in Paris,
the son of Enice McFatridge and
Edna Brown McFatridge. He
married Virginia Hurt on August
19, 1966 in Durant, Okla.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force
and served in World War II and the
Korean conflict. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church and the
Masonic Lodge No. 167 in
Whitewright.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Steve
McFatridge of Dallas and David
McFatridge of Ft. Worth; sisters,
Jessie Nichols of Blue, Okla., and
Thelma Northcote of Orange

ing” from “Oklahoma” on the CBS “This Morning”
program on channel 4 and channel 12, on October
23, 1990 at 8:30 a.m.
The practiced hard for 8 days and had a wonder-
ful experience! Thanks to all the parents for help-
ing their children memorize the words and hand
signals.

Ashford and was a Baptist.

several other couples. There was
lots of good food, fellowship and
playing 42. They brough Mattie
Burkett from the Chapel of Care
Nursing Home, who is 98. Everyone
