been rising Mnsatiomlly. PsrttohA ,
they have risen too sharply; perhaps
not enough. At any rats speculators
In the various markets are confident
m their operations. The recent gains
soon will be reflected in higher prKes
1 for goods at retail and that will 'be
the equivalent of a wage reduction
for workers and an increase in wages
for the farmers. The stock market has
not risen as rapidly as commodities.
Either it is too low or commodities are
too high. In either event, it is due
for a wide move up or down.
In the old days everyone thought
of 100 as par. Today par doeen t moan
anything anywhere, but the figure 100
is very important. Cheers were sent
up when wheat sold at 100 cents for
the first time since l®*0. The Dow-
Jones industrial average yesterday at
2 p. m. hit exactly 99 and 44-100ths,
while the United Press daily commod-
ity price index closed at 99.43. Nation-
al distillers erasesd the 100 mark for
the first time. The American dollar,
still worth 100 cents in the United
States, was down below T9 cents in
France.
Talking of 100, one is reminded of
percentage. Some of ths stocl^ ex-
change gains have been'sensational If
calculated in per cent.'The "dogs and
Cats" in many instances have ris-
en several hundred per cent. For that
matter so have some of the leaders.
U. S. Steel, for example, is up 1S1 per
cent from its low of the year; national
steel is up 258 per cent; national dis-
tillers up 500 per cent; General Mo-
tors up 203 per cent; Case up 204 per ’
cent and New York Central up 193 per '
cent.

Conservation Of Wild
Life In Texas Urged
Austin, June 28 (UP) — Scurrying
through the Underbrush and hiding in
streams of Texas are game and fish
estimated to have an annual value of
J23.5T0.860, according to the U. S. Bio
logical 'Survey.
1 This vait wealth, cdntehds the Tix-
ai Grime. Hah aifd Oyster conunli-
sibfa.!' Is without adequate protection.
It’s conservation program has been
crippled by lack of funds.
To fill the gap. Texas sportsmen
have been asked to volunteer in the
task of conserving the state’s wild
life.
Texas leads the nation in the esti-
mated value of its game. Annual meat
and fur values of game in Minnesota,
second state in the list, total only 87,-
244,876. The biological survey also es-
timates the combined annual positive
vriiue of all wild life In Texas is $94.-
350,394, nearly three times as great as
the next ranking state.
The combined values of wild life in
Pennsylvania, which spends large
sums for conservation, total less than
one-third of those of Texas.
