Meade, Kan., Sept. 5 (UP) — Offi-

(Machine Gun) Kelley a bandit cap.
tured by two women armed with cro-
quet mallets.
Faced with an automatic pistol, Mrs.
Ansel Horning and Mrs. p. G. Prather
of Meade closed in on a desperado
who sought to steal their automobile
in the city park. They beat him to the
ground.
Men came running, seized the daz-
ed suspect and called the sheriff.
Two men and a woman accompany-
ing the prisoner, who refused to iden-
tify himself or talk to officers, fled
when their companion went down un-
der flailing mallets.

Bailey and Kelley also are suspects
in the machine gun massacre of five
men at the Kansas City union station
last June and other major crimes.
The bandit car mired in the Meade
city park. Help was called to pull it
out of the mud hole. While this was
| in progress, the man subsequently cap-
| tured accosted a party of women on a
nearby corquet court.
He flourished a pistal and demand
ed an automobile.
Undaunted by threatened death,
Mrs. Homing and Mrs Prather advan-
ced with swinging mallets. The sur-
prised bandit was felled before firing
but in the ensuing scuffle
a man with his pistol.
His companions, their car on hard
ground, roared away westward, aban
donlng their captive.
Sheriff R. B. Drinner described the
suspect as about 26 years old, slender
and of medium height. He was held
in the Meade county jail and a posse
dispatched on the trail of his compan-
ions.
