ker, pioneer settlers of the New-
port community and was born

other brothers, Willis and John

Newport Man Sells His Farm
and Ranching Lands
A real - estate deal was per-
fected last week when Jack Mor-
ris, 3 miles out on Crafton high- !
way. sold his farm and ranch-
ing lands to Troy Wolf, of. near
Bowie in Montague-cuunty;

Another Newport Man Grows
, Fine Corn This Year
Cecil Elenburg, of Newport,
- has proven that he can grow
the drought we have had this
year.
A sample of his corn has been
J placed on exhibition at the J. O. |
Smith grocery store'and some of 1
the ears aree 12 iffches long and
filled out to the end.
He made 15 wagon loads of
the corn from a small acreage
down on what is known as the
old Coleman Wade place, on the
Jacksboro road, three miles be-
low Newport.
Elenburg has a tractor and did
his cultivatiing of this good corn
with the machine.
Newport Girl Leaves For Her
School in Deep East Texas
Miss Lula Belle Morfis, teach-
er, left Newport Thursday of

ed that her school was to start

Week-End Tells of Getting
Caught in Big Fort Worth Rain
Pfc. Ed F. Bulls, Jr., who was
coming up from his camp at
Camp Bowie, tells about getting
caught in the big flood of last
Saturday that fell at Ft. Worth
and surrounding country.
He stated that the rain was
falling so hard that it caused
him to miss'his regular bus from
there to .Bowie..and he was de-
layed. Said it just poured down
and the thunder and lightning
was terrific and the water
f’ooded everything. Said that
the rain reached as far as Sun-
set, wheii it played out and by.
the time he got to Bowie the bus
was kicking up dust.
Fort Worth, had a four inch
rain Saturday morning and up
until noon.
In Ellis county the flood water
destroyed more than half the
county’s cotton crop, it "has been
reported by the county agent
there. ‘ •
