Mrs Mattie Nail, 75, former
resident of Bowie, passed away
Friday morning, September 29
Funeral services were held Sun-
day, October L at Ropesville,
where she was a resident at' tln
time of her death. She was very
well dnd favorably known in
Bowie and was a member of the
Church of Christ.
We saw them close their eyes
in pain;
We heard them call their "Mas-

We heard them mention "Moth-

Our dear "Pals” died like- he-

They speak no word. They
breathe no sigh.
They went forth strong, with
courage too;
They fell beside the pals they
knew.
We saw them charge. We saw
them fall.
“Our buddies fell, tifey gave
tht* all.”
We saw them smile, No sign of
fear;
We lost our ‘Tais” to us so dear.

BIBLE THOUGHT
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe
also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it

place for you—Jesus. St. John 14:1-2.

Housing In Bowie
The announcement made in this paper last week that the
War Production Board has given permission for twenty-five
homes to be erected in Bowie comes as good news, because
oi the critical housing situation here.'
This is probably the first of several similar releases that
may be expected soon, and should have a salutary effect on
tents and prices of property here.
A few owners of property here have had their sights too
high and have made- unreasonable advances, others -only
u. reasonable advancse. The unusual high rents in some i'n
stances have been pitched up because some folks who had

then take lower priced places or plan to build for them-
selves, and leave the-high priced houses vacant-xand in some
instances were careless in their care for the property while
they occupied it, because they considered the lease price un-
reasonable in the first place. Thefefore, unreasonably high
rentals do not pay property owners-^especidliy in the long’
run. Elephants arc not the only animals who remember.
Bowie will be greatly helped now by the erection of many.
F.ew houses. 1t will also stimulate business here in various
Bnes.

Better Water For Bowie
The action of the City Council last week in lettipg contract
for approximately. $14,000 in improvements on the wate,r
system, is good news indeecj to residents of this city.
The margin of supply and demand came dangerously nar-
row last August, before‘ the rains came. There was plenty,
of water in lake Bowie, but the facilities for clearing it and
-getting it to the consumers were inadequate. The contract
let last week provides .for a 150,000 gallon clear well and
improvements on handling the later as it is cleared into the
City distribution system.
The power line to the lake was increased in size and now
more pumps can be operated. One deep well below the
lake dam has been drilled proving there is ample supply of
good soft water to be had there economically, by the drilling
of two or three more similar wells. The water from' these
wells will be clearer when it enters the purifying system
and much softer and with less mineral content. It will be.
much softer than water direct from the lake. Clear and soft
water in large quanity is a boon to any town. Especially
should the women citizens of Bowie be proud of this im-
Movement, for scarcely anything makes housekeeping and
loundrying more difficult than hard, muddy water-.-
Plenty,of good, clear, soft water is an asset that helps to
attract new citizens and new industries to a community. -
We congratulate the City Dads on the moye for a greater
water system. » — /
