The VVaxanachte Lone Star Band
gave a very creditable concert last
night at Library park complimen-
tary to the people who aided them
in various ways in giving their shou-
cus performance w hich enabled them
to realize a neat sum of money for
current expenses. The program
which was of a very high order was
rendered in a most pleasing manner
throughout.
The opening number “Stars and
Stripes Forever.” was one that held ;
closest attention but the real mu-
sical treat catpe when Director Jaw
E King and John Sawyer rendered
an excellent cornet duet Dumber
“Ida and Dottie Polka” by Lowrey.
Three well selected numbers by
the whole band then brought the pro-;
gram down to the intermission pe-
riod. It seemed all too short for th<
music hungiy throng. The number!
“Hilo” after intermission was like- j
wise a very delightful j rnber.
Cecil Witherspoon in 5ii» Xylo-:
phone solo completely captured the '
j-----!
audience and he was forced to play
two encore numbers each of which
was a delight and a joy.
The closing number was the na-
i tlonal sont of the allies in which
j several flags were displayed to rep-
i resent the various nations. The first
j few flags were raised in silence but
| when the emblem of little Belgium
i was hoisted a great applause was
; given showing the people were in j
j sympathy with a suffering strng-j
gling nation. When the British flag!
was raised the band played “God j
Save the King.'* When the flag of:
Uhe confederacy was raised the band :
! played "Dixie” and the audience gave j
■ it loudest cheering. This flag war
! bullet riddled.
The la.-t national flag to be un-
furled was that representing the
north south east and west united
against any foe of liberty it wa:-
the flag of the I nited States—the
Stars and Stripe*. Th- band played '
“The Star Spangled Banner*’ but the)
music was drowned in a mighty yell j
from hundreds of throats.
The program was a delightful one)
ana those • Uo failed to hear it miss-
ed a real treat.
