OIL CONSERVATION INSPECTOR.
New Orleans La. Feb. 8.—The con-
servation commission today announced
John W. Smith of Lake Charles ap-
pointed conservation inspector for the
Caddo oil and gas fields. His duties
which he assumes at once consist in en-
forcing the rules aur regulations which
the commission recently adopted for
the purpose of stopping the huge oil and
gas waste in the Caddo hel ls.
IN THE DITCH.
Palestine Tex. Feb. 8.—Three ears
were put in the ditch Wednesday morn-
ing at the Colorado street crossing of
the International and tireat Northern
railroad in this city and the track was
torn up considerably. The ears were
loaded and the contents dumped in a
heap beside the track. Passengers on
No. - from Houston were detoured on a
train made up in this city which pro-
ceeded to Longview about an hour late.
The wrecker was several hours getting
the track in shape for traffic.

Woodvilie. Tex. Feb. 8.—The grand
jury of Tyler county adjourned yester-
day after being in session nine days
and returned eighteen bills of indict-
ments. four of which were felonies and
fourteen misdemeanors. District courit
is still in session.
STOCK LAW ELECTION.
Ilearne. Tex.. Feb. 8.—Tim city coun-
cil met last night and a petition ask-
ing for a stock law election was ordered
for Tuesday Feb. IS. An election was
held here last summer and the proposi-
tion was lost by three votes.

Abilene. Tex. Feb. 8.—J. T. Rond ol
Merkel formerly a newspaper man was
crushed to death under an automobile in
which he was riding when it turned tur
tie about a mile and a half west of this
citv.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
BecviRe. Tex. Feb. 8.— J. C. Hunt an
unmarried man aged about 3ti years
was found dead under a tree about one
and one-half miles below Oakville. Tues-
day morning with a bullet bole through
his head. The remains were brought
here and shipped to Copperas Cove his
former homo. He had gone hunting and
took his .ty-30 and shotguii and it lie-
lu*jed his death was accidental.

SUSPENDED SENTENCE BILL.
The suspended sentence law introduced
by Senator Weinert was passed finally
today in the House. The bill now goes
to the governor for approval.
The House adopted a resolution calling
on the chief clerk to get all information
possible for the use of the house rela-
tive to the question o the judicial redis-
tricting of the state.
A bill was introduced into the House
making the grounds of the A. A M. col-;
lege a game preserve. *|
The senate passed today a bill appro-
priating $2000 for tin* mileage and per
diem of the presidential electors and a
bill providing that graduates of junior
colleges may. by doing prescribed work
get a first grade certificate to teach.
CANNOT AUDIT CLAIMS.
Comptroller Lane today submitted a
communication to the legislature calling
attention to the decision of the supreme
court that his department cannot audit
claims of county officials and as a result
his department is unable to eliminate
claims that have been presented and are
erroneous amounting to $500000.
Both branches of the legislature ad-
journed at noon until Monday morning.
