OXE REMEDY.
For every evil in this world there is
doubtless a remedy somewhere to be
found if sought diligently. Even the. bar
ils ravages in the purchase of she!I*-worn
anti<|uated stuffs from the catalogue hulls
es is not beyond remedy
The Herald wishes to say h *re and now
< 'omplaiiiing is not the reme I . Abase
either of the catalogue houses or (heir
customers is not the reuic Lv. The only
way to win this or any othr battle is to
fight l ight the catalogue hause as they
tight you. It they persuade* your good
customers away persuade them bach.
What is needed in this war is concert
of netii n. That at least is one tiling
needed. If is not an individual question
but it is a ••oiuiimiiil.v question. From tin*
standpoint of the local merchant the
patronage of the catalogue indicates a
lack of community spirit a lack of !o-
cal pride a lack of appreciation d alia!
loyalty to the town involves as to the
people of tin* town.
If indeed e ubs are being organiz'd fo
order goods in large ipianliiies from out
side towns the thing (o do is to organize
counter clubs. Why not organize in
Brownsville a Home Buyers Flub?"
This club could lie instituted by the wives
and daughters <T local business men lo-
cal merchants. These might work in co-
operation with the local chamber o*' cain
meree fo create a h um* buying scufinicni
in Brownsville. For it can liarUv
that th<* merchants ami their families
are not ai one on this ipieslion. II ot
course merchant is knifing merchant a-
to this matter if fin hardware man buy -
groceries abroad if the grocery mail is
sending to Dallas and e si w here for his
hardware then the dilfieu ty is incrcas
ed. and each member of the column id ly
is barred from complaint because il hi*
ow n sins against his neighbor il *v i1 i
lake more than grumbling to do Hu
work. Organize against the enemies ol
the local trade. This will not do all lhai
