Had Bucklev the Fourth Infant rv team’s
right fielder not connected vnih Million's
offering in the last halt of the ninth inning
'lor a beautiful homerun through the cen-
ter the Fourth Infantry Riflemen would
have l>een given a large sized goose egg to
the extent of 7 to 0 ui the game at Fort
Brown Sunday afternoon. The infantry-'
men undoubtedly played their loosest game
»>t the season seeming unable to connect
with the ball at tlu- home plate and show - \
ing a very bad brand of town iot baseball
in their fielding.
The Saints were in unusually good form 1
and backing up their pitcher Mallott with
good fielding they doubled at hatting and
bit Marshall liberally throughout the game. !
The usual pep and teamwork of the
Riflemen was not in evidence and early in
the game it was apparent there was little
chance for tin* Fort Brown aggregation to
overcome the loose work that iharked the
op nmg of the garni.
The only ruffle of interest in the game
occurred in the fir-t half of the ninth when
Mallott got a safe hit. Brady followed
with a home run but Umpire St. Clair in-
structed Mallot to return to second on the
ground that he had not touched the base.
The ball was relayed to second putting
Mullott out and another relay resulted in
Brady being touched out on the ground
that the second runner could not precede
tin* tir-t to the home plate. Manager A. G.
Trent of the Saints protested the decision
but as the umpire called the ftiilurc to
touch the base the protest was not con-
sidered.
