NEW ORDER LIKE
KD KLIX APPEARS
IN ENGLISH TOWN
'Bv The Associated Press).
LONDON Feb. fi.- A strange secret
■society known as ;;ie Order of the Cru-
ivfider. which seems to blend with an an
tique ritual certain points of resemb-
lance to the Ku Klux Klan ami th.? !•'«<-
cisti of Italy is springing up in Kng-
larul.
According to a member of the order
it was founded two years ngo. During
the last two months it has been con-
ducting an extensive campaign for
membership and while it refuses to di-
vulge the number of its members it
claims to have them in every section
of Great llrilain.
The avowed object of the society i
to bring back the spirit of the Crusad-
er to everyday life.
Meetings of the order are held be
Hind closed door/. On ceremonial oc-
casions the members are dressed in a
striking garb. Officer* wenr criniso *
robes with n large white cross on the
left side and other members adopt :»
black gown with a white surplice over
it on the breast of which is :i icj
cross.
Some of the emblem* of the order ar*
suggestive of a different purpose how
over. In the ritual a iv»rd i- carried to
symbolize "service” spurs are worn to
iepresent "chivalry” and "loyalty” ir
expressed by carrying bann< rs.
The literature of the order state i
that it aim* at forming "in every ward
of each town and in every large vil
lage a conclave of crusaders composed
of real leaders of public opinion in th*
locality." Later on they intend "to g«-t
crusaders into Parliament on county
and local councils in the churches anil
ont of them.”
The initiation of candidates nx re-
gards. time place and ceremony close!
rcsembes the Ku Klux K!an.
When each candidate is initiated hi-
ts expected to make a donation of tv u
pounds or more there being no limit
to he used by the officials as thev see
fit.
